Committed to supporting individuals and families to connect with the positive sides of their culture, they empower people to change their lives by developing their inner strengths, providing client-centred and confidential services in a consistent and coordinated way. The name “Jungarni Jutiya” translates to “straight path” in the native languages of the Kiji and Jaru people, the traditional owners of the surrounding land.

About the Opportunity

Jungarni-Jutiya now has an exciting and highly varied opportunity for a Financial Counsellor to join their team on a full-time basis. Whilst predominantly working from the Halls Creek, WA office, you will be stationed in surrounding communities for the first week of each month, returning on day trips once a week to follow up and ensure support is consistently available.

Reporting to the Program Manager, you will be providing confidential financial counselling to families and individuals, including assistance, casework, and referral services to support the management of their individual financial circumstances.

You will be well-supported thanks to a partnership with the Kimberley Community Legal Service, who are able to share resources and Financial Counselling staff between Kununarra and Halls Creek. This gives clients access to legal help, as well as ensuring that you aren't an isolated source of support or advice, backed by an experienced team.

Your day to day responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assessing clients' current financial position, developing a client file and keeping accurate records in accordance with relevant regulations;
  • Providing appropriate financial, debt recovery and court system information to support clients in making informed decisions;
  • Providing budgeting and practical steps to relieve financial stress, referring to other services as required;
  • Advocating on behalf of clients with service providers, including landlords and utility companies; and
  • Regularly following up with clients, seeking feedback, monitoring results and adjusting services as needed.

About You

To be successful in this position you will hold or be close to completing a diploma in Financial Counselling.

Previous experience living and/or working in a remote area will be highly regarded but is not essential, provided you can demonstrate an understanding of the difference in financial counselling needs within remote communities.

A confident communicator, you will be able to adapt your approach to each individual, and be comfortable giving talks, running workshops or delivering radio presentations as required. Importantly, you will also be highly empathetic, capable of listening to your clients and understanding their situation and needs.

Highly flexible, you will be able to think on your feet and successfully manage a highly varied workload, where no two days are the same. You'll be able to work autonomously and as part of a diverse, multidisciplinary team.

Finally, you'll be driven and genuinely committed to supporting individuals and families in these communities, being proactive in offering support and following up with your clients.

Please note: You will need a current 'C' class driver's license, and be willing to obtain national police clearance and a working with children check.

About the Benefits

This is a unique and highly rewarding opportunity to use your skills to support remote communities. You'll be able to truly make your mark on the organisation, who are committed to continuous improvement and welcome new ideas or suggestions from any of their team!

Jungarni-Jutiya is offering the successful candidate an attractive remuneration circa $78,884, negotiable based on your experience and qualifications, plus super and salary sacrificing
