About the Organisation
Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation (AHAC) is a multi-disciplinary organisation which provides primary health care services to the Aboriginal people of Tennant Creek and the surrounding Barkly region.
Anyinginyi consists of five different sections (Health Centre, Corporate Services, Public Health Unit, Sports and Recreation, and Piliyintinji-Ki Stronger Families) which allows them to have an holistic approach to health ensuring that clients' physical and emotional health and wellbeing is given the utmost priority.
Anyinginyi's mission is to be a provider of high quality holistic primary health care services focusing on prevention and treatment in a culturally responsive way that empowers Aboriginal people to take more responsibility for their own health.
About the Opportunity
Anyinginyi now has a rewarding opportunity for a full-time Public Health Registered Nurse to join their Public Health Unit in Tennant Creek, NT.
Reporting to the Public Health Section Manager, you will be responsible for implementing, evaluating and improving the Sexual Health and Blood Borne Viruses (SH&BBV) program.
More specifically, you will be primarily focused on improving the coordination of the screening, monitoring and prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STI's) concerning Aboriginal men in the community.
Some of your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):
- Working closely with Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation clinical services to ensure timely and appropriate internal and external STI index and contact referrals;
- Conducting regular audits to maintain best practice including the review and implementation of appropriate policies, while working collaboratively with the Anyinginyi Health clinical services to ensure SH&BBV program activities are being implemented into operational plans;
- Regularly reviewing pathology reports in accordance with Anyinginyi Health Sexual Health management guidelines;
- Increasing the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people tested for syphilis while developing processes to ensure syphilis testing data is collected in order to monitor the effectiveness of treatment in the Barkly region; and
- Involving traditional elders and leaders in promoting STI&BBV awareness in the communities and participating in public health promotion activities while working closely with Aboriginal Health Practitioners (AHPs) to improve Aboriginal engagement and access to health services.
Whilst the majority of service delivery is clinic based and will occur in Tennant Creek, occasional overnight travel to remote communities may be required, dependent on operational needs.

About You
To be successful in this role, you must have current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse, with demonstrable and highly developed clinical skills and experience, ideally in Indigenous primary health care.
Working with Aboriginal individuals and families of all ages and backgrounds, it is essential that you are culturally sensitive and have a strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, with an ability to deliver culturally appropriate health services that support Aboriginal self-determination and maintain strong relationships with community stakeholders.
You will also have comprehensive experience in sexual health, with a working knowledge of best practice STI/BBV management, and be comfortable delivering community prevention education sessions and organising outreach activities to spread awareness of health related issues.
Additionally, you will be able to develop and implement public health programs whilst having the capacity to undertake clinical audits against best practice guidelines. Highly developed computer literacy, reporting writing and data management skills will also be seen as important.
Finally, you must possess high-level communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in a cross-cultural environment. You'll demonstrate well-developed time management skills and an initiative to respond to the changing health needs of Aboriginal clients, with a willingness to incorporate local values in wellbeing programs, services and initiatives to help with Closing the Gap.
Please note: Prior to commencement you will need to undergo a National Police Clearance and obtain a current Ochre Card. A Driver's License and the ability to drive to communities as required is also essential for this role.
