About the Opportunity

Gympie Regional Council has an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Building Surveyor to join their team.

Reporting to the Manager Building and Plumbing Services, the primary aim of this role is to ensure all building work within the Region is in accordance with the relevant legislation.

More specifically, your key job responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Undertaking inspections of the classes of buildings as allowed by qualifications;
  • Undertaking all administration duties to document, control and regulate the classes of building as allowed by qualifications;
  • Processing swimming pool applications, undertake on-site inspections and preparing the necessary report for Council consideration in respect to variations/exemptions requested by the property owners;
  • Preparing written reports on building matters for consideration by Supervisor/Council;
  • Preparing written correspondence to applicants, owners and consultants in relation to deficient applications and building matters;
  • Providing verbal and written advice to consultants, builders and the public on a diverse range of building matters and interpretation of the building regulations, codes, etc; and
  • Undertaking annual inspections of buildings on Council property and prepare maintenance and budgetary reports to Principal Building Surveyor.

The successful candidate will have at least 12 months experience in building control work as an assistant building surveyor. You will need to possess a qualification and experience that satisfies the Queensland Building Services Authority for the accreditation level of Assistant Building Surveyor. In addition, you must hold a current driver's licence.

Candidates will have a sound knowledge of the Building Code of Australia, Standard Building Regulation, the Building Act, associated Australian Standards, and Fire Safety Requirements.

Importantly, Gympie Regional Council is seeking an individual with excellent interpersonal skills both in person and on the phone when communicating with a diverse range of staff, management and the public, and the ability to make prompt and reliable decisions within the bounds of allocated responsibilities You will be a self-motivated, well organised team player with the experience and flexibility to deal effectively with changing priorities.
