About the Opportunity
Gympie Regional Council has an excellent opportunity for a Lands Protection Manager to join their team.
Answering directly to the General Manager Works - Western Division, and overseeing the Lands Protection team, the primary aim of this role is to coordinate and implement a range of region wide and Directorate Operational Plans including the Council Pest Management Plans for the control of pest plants and animals.
As the senior Lands Protection Officer, you will also be responsible for receiving and coordinating all major enquiries and complaints for lands protection operations.
More specifically, your key job responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):
- Managing, coordinating and implementing a range of Council and Department Operational Plans including the Council Pest Management Plan;
- Participating in surveys of the distribution of plant species which exhibit the potential to become a threat to sustainable land use;
- Overseeing the Land Protection personnel and monitoring staff output and development;
- Providing advice and liaising with community groups;
- Developing the Lands Protection budget and ensuring it isn't exceeded; and
- Promoting the implementation of Total Quality Management and Continuous Improvement Programs within the department.
The successful candidate will hold a Diploma or Associate Diploma in the field of Rural or Natural Resource Science or relevant practical experience. In addition, you must also hold a current drivers license and a Commercial Operators Licence under Agriculture Chemicals Distribution Control Act.
Candidates who have a sound knowledge of primary production and other land practices, combined with a solid understanding of the Lands Protection Act and Regulations will be viewed favourably.
This is a key leadership position within the Gympie Regional Council and accordingly, the successful candidate will need to possess a sound knowledge of Council's organisation and government departments. In addition to this, demonstrated knowledge of budgeting procedures is essential.

The successful candidate will be rewarded with an attractive salary package, circa $59,857 - $69,050 per annum plus 12.25% superannuation, and the job security attached to working with a prominent Regional Council.
