About the Opportunity

Defence Maritime Services has an exciting opportunity for a Manager Operations  Armidale Class Patrol Boats, In Service Support (ACPB ISS) to join the team in Darwin and a Director of Operations in Sydney.

Manager Operations ACPB ISS

The Manager Operations ACPB ISS is the Chief of Staff and Deputy to the ACPB Project Director.

This senior role is primarily responsible for the  management of project documentation, ACPB business management system (BMS),  investigations, periodic project reports, compliance with DMS policy and overall administration.

Specifically, you will ensure the efficient and economic management of the project contracts. The core duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Project analysis including analysing data, business needs & information;
  • Assisting in quality administration, maintaining records and managing documents;
  • Updating operations resulting from changes in OH&S regulations and legislation, ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards;
  • Conducting accident and incident investigations as directed;
  • Ensuring Contract deliverables are achieved effectively, on time and within budget;
  • Overseeing the work of all subordinate personnel, guiding and reviewing performance;
  • Maintaining communications channels with key stakeholders;
  • Maintaining skills of ACPB project staff and preparation of staff business cases; and
  • Managing financial matters, including budgets, quotes and report preparation.

To be successful in this pivotal role, you must hold a bachelor degree, with a background in operations.

You will have a minimum of 10 years operations management experience in maritime service organisations,  the Defence Forces or similar. In depth knowledge of Navy operating practices will be a key advantage, while proven management experience in commercial or government sectors is essential.

Director of Operations

Supporting the Chief Operating Officer, this role will be responsible for the leadership, management and coordination of shared service organisations and project operations across DMS.

Specifically, you will support and lead new or repeat business projects, including conducting business research, the development of strategy and participating in the development of tender responses.

Your primary duties will include:

  • Providing assistance to DMS Project Directors and Managers;
  • Ensuring project outcomes meet customer requirements with regards to schedule, budget and quality;
  • Identifying risks and mitigation strategies for all projects;
  • Investigating and presenting project solutions and improvements;
  • Assist in sourcing and evaluating new business opportunities, including project feasibility, risk and cost; and
  • Reviewing business proposals and resolving project problems.

To be successful, candidates must possess a tertiary qualification and experience in project management. Postgraduate qualifications will be an advantage, while leadership and extensive maritime / defence experience is essential.

Importantly, you will have the ability to lead a high performance team, drawing upon your comprehensive knowledge of commercial and government practices to ensure projects are of the highest standard.
