About the Organisation

The Lorna Hodgkinson Sunshine Home (SUNSHINE) is a not-for-profit organisation that is committed to enhancing opportunities and relationships for people with disabilities, people living with mental illness, their families and the aged within their communities. Sunshine was set up in 1924 and is a respected provider of accommodation, employment and community support services for people with a disability. The services are provided in the areas of:

About the Opportunity

Sunshine is seeking a number of Community Support Workers for their teams in Northern Sydney, to include the areas of Hornsby and Ku-ring-gai.

In these pivotal roles, you will be responsible for supporting families in their homes and/or in two centre-based respite homes. When required, you will also be responsible for supporting their involvement in the community.

Some of your specific responsibilities will include:

  • Providing respite support in the form of living skills and personal attendance for older frail people, people living with a mental illness, young people with moderate, severe or profound disabilities and their carers;
  • Ensuring that the service delivery of respite services addresses the full range of support that would be required by the individual during the incidence of service;
  • Observing all health care related policies and procedures and observing / supporting the health, safety and well being of clients;
  • Being familiar with contingency plans in the event of an emergency or critical incidents involving a client/s;
  • Where required, providing transport for clients to and from appointments and to accompany and support clients in community activities;
  • Supporting clients in their daily routines e.g. washing, ironing, cleaning and preparing meals; and
  • Maintaining effective communication, including telephone contact with coordinators and team leaders regarding all facets of working with the clients.

For these roles, Sunshine is seeking "people people" who are happy to work with a wide cross section of individuals, from children through to the elderly. Ideally, you will have experience caring for people with disabilities.

You must have a full and current NSW licence, a working vehicle and your own mobile phone, as well as a Current First Aid Certificate (or the ability to get this qualification within the first three months of appointment). Sunshine would also prefer applicants to live in the local area.

To be eligible for these roles, you must hold Australian residency status or a valid Australian Working Visa, without restrictions.

The successful Support Worker candidates will be rewarded with an attractive hourly rate circa $18-$19 per hour, along with 10% loading and weekend penalty rates.
