About the Opportunity

City of Whittlesea Council is seeking a number of Maternal & Child Health Nurses to join their dedicated team, with a choice of Full Time, Part Time or Casual positions.

The main objective of this role is to provide a high quality Maternal & Child Health Service to families with young children living in the City of Whittlesea.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring the health and development of young children and their families, including assessments, screenings, education and guidance;
  • Promoting optimum health and wellbeing of mother and child by education and guidance;
  • Promoting and supporting breastfeeding and infant nutrition;
  • Early identification of children and mothers at risk of abuse, post-natal depression, physical and social/emotional disability;
  • Using group work as a strategy to promote communication for social interaction and support for all parents;
  • Promoting the National Childhood Immunisation program and to provide information to enable parents to make informed decisions about immunisation;
  • Developing and supporting groups and programs relevant to the needs of the area; and
  • Maintaining appropriate records, both in the Child Health Record and on the Xpedite system.

The successful applicants will need qualifications and registration as a General Nurse, Midwife and Maternal and Child Health Nurse, with the Victorian Nurses Board. A current 'Working with Children' check, Practicing Certificate and Victorian driver's licence are also essential.

City of Whittlesea Council is seeking an applicant with excellent communication skills enabling them to work effectively with a wide variety of people and groups, and in a multi-disciplinary team. You will have well developed observation and assessment skills, and the ability to effectively manage time in terms of setting priorities and organising workloads.

Importantly, you will have an understanding and commitment to the principles of Community Health, a solid knowledge of specialist services for family and children, and a willingness to embrace the principles of Health Promotion. A reasonable level of computer literacy is also required.

In order to recruit and retain high quality candidates, Council is offering an attractive remuneration package circa $75,728 (pro rata) for a RN Level 1, and $77,136 (pro rata) for a RN Level 2.
