About the Opportunity

As part of the Works & Services Department, the main aim of this role is to coordinate and schedule Council's Annual Works Program, as well as to supervise the Maintenance Team to ensure that road, drainage and maintenance programs are completed effectively.
If you have experience in scheduling and supervising civil projects, particularly with emphasis on road construction and maintenance, this could be a career-defining position! This is a multi-faceted and highly varied leadership role in which you will liaise with people from your Division, from other areas of Council and with external stakeholders in order to ensure Wongan-Ballidu Shire's record of excellent works is continued.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring contractors, plant and materials, including gravel supplies, are available in advance of all work;
- Providing regular feedback to the Manager Works & Services in relation to the progress and projects and any problems encountered;
- Instigating continual improvement modelling and reporting;
- Providing leadership, direction and supervision to the Maintenance Team;
- Ensuring that regular maintenance, repair or replacement is carried out on roadside and drainage infrastructure;
- Maintaining a high standard of plant and machinery operation and ensuring that regular maintenance and relevant log books are completed; and
- Approving the purchasing of goods and services including sourcing suppliers, obtaining quotations and signing of purchase orders.
Wongan-Ballidu Shire Council is seeking a highly organised and analytical applicant with relevant experience in road maintenance techniques, including drainage, pavement repairs (sealed and unsealed) and bitumen edge reconstruction. You will have a background in successfully scheduling and coordinating small to medium sized projects, and in supervising a small team of employees.
Within this role, you will need to apply basic surveying and engineering principles to a broad cross section of theoretical and practical engineering tasks, and have skills in reading design plans and using survey equipment.
You will also need excellent communication/interpersonal skills, a high level of computer literacy (particularly in Civil Engineering and Surveying, Main Roads Western Australia Road Inventory (ROMAN), MetroCount vehicle classifiers and Microsoft Office) and exposure to CAD. Quality 4 x 2 housing is provided or a rental subsidy if you own your own house. In addition, you will enjoy a utilities allowance, making the everyday 'cost of living' considerably cheaper. Council will also provide relocation assistance to the right candidate.
Working with one of WA's most progressive Councils, you will enjoy flexible working hours, allowing for a healthy work-life balance, and will also be provided with a mobile phone.
