About the Program

Under the Skilling Australia for the Future initiative, the Commonwealth has funded the Productivity Places Program (PPP) which will deliver 711,000 training places over 5 years in areas of skills shortage to ensure that Australian workers develop the skills they need. These training places are being delivered in an industry-driven system, ensuring that training is more responsive to the needs of businesses and participants.

About the Opportunity

If you're a self-motivated 'go getter' fuelled by helping others achieve their ambitions, STEPS has a fantastic opportunity for Trainers - Retail to work on a casual basis in Darwin.

The main aim of this exciting role is to provide professional training programs to job seekers and workers who are looking to sharpen their skills in the retail sector.

Some of your specific duties will include:

  • Delivering high quality retail training programs;
  • Undertaking training and assessment activities;
  • Visiting prospective clients to discuss their training needs;
  • Designing and delivering effective work based learning and assessment strategies;
  • Promoting the program and sourcing opportunities through networking;
  • Participating in the research and development of training programs; and
  • Developing professional relationships with staff, employers and associations.

Essentially, this variety infused role will see you designing engaging material, teaching the program and assessing your students, ensuring they gain the skills their need to succeed.

You will enjoy delivering the program in a variety of learning environments. You will also gain the opportunity to visit an array of workplaces, assessing employees training needs, and creating targeted learning material to up skill their team, and then delivering training onsite.

The successful applicant must hold a combination of Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and a Certificate III in Retail. In addition, you will have a minimum of three years experience working in retail, with a well-developed appreciation of fantastic customer service.

Impressive communication skills will be essential as you impart your knowledge to students and build relationships with employers to organise work experience placements.

You should be computer-savvy, with knowledge of Microsoft Suite and the ability to quickly find your way around a keyboard. You will hold a ‘C' Class driver's licence and be subject to the satisfactory outcome of a Federal Criminal History Check.
