State Coordinator – Multicultural Youth Network of NSW (part time)

About the Organisation

Youth Action & Policy Association NSW (YAPA) is the peak organisation representing young people and youth services in NSW.

YAPA works towards a society where all young people are supported, engaged and valued.

The role of YAPA is to:

  • Monitor and respond to government policies and proposals affecting young people;
  • Promote and advocate on issues affecting young people and youth services;
  • Bring young people and youth workers together to act on issues affecting them;
  • Work to raise a positive profile of young people in the media and in the community;
  • Provide training, forums and conferences to young people and youth workers;
  • Provide information and referral; and
  • Produce a range of resources, publications and newsletters.

About the Multicultural Youth Issues Network of NSW (MYINN)

The Multicultural Youth Issues Network of NSW (MYINN) was established in 1993 and is a network of services committed to multiculturalism and improving the opportunities and outcomes for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) young people, including Refugee & Newly Arrived Young People.

Funding has recently been made available to the MYINN (via YAPA) for 12 months, as part of a DIAC-funded project to develop the National Multicultural Youth Advocacy Network. YAPA is the auspice agency for the MYINN for the duration of this funding.

About the Opportunity

Youth Action & Policy Association has an exciting opportunity for a part time State Coordinator to coordinate and deliver the activities of the Multicultural Youth Issues Network of NSW (MYINN) for the 12-month funding period of this Project.

Based in Surry Hills, this position will liaise with key stakeholders at the state, regional and local levels and manage work priorities as set and guided by the MYINN Reference Group. This position has a focus on building strategic relationships across the government and non-government sectors and developing a sustainability strategy for the MYINN beyond the current funding period.

Some of your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide overall management of MYINN activities in order to achieve the goals of the Project;
  • Coordinate and convene Statewide Multicultural Youth Issues Network meetings for youth workers, policy makers, community organisations and government, to raise and discuss issues impacting on young people from CALD backgrounds;
  • Develop a sustainability strategy for the MYINN in order to achieve sustainability, including identifying and pursuing ongoing funding and advocacy work with government;
  • Coordinate and formulate policy responses and advice to government and the non-government sector on matters related to multicultural young people in NSW;
  • Undertake policy analysis to further the advocacy goals of the MYINN; and
  • Support the development and delivery of community education and cultural diversity training activities as directed.

The successful applicant will have a demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the youth and multicultural sectors within NSW, including social policy issues and the complexities of working in a State-wide context.

You will require expeience in experience in project management, excellent communication and organisational skills, and an ability to manage a complex work program independently.

YAPA is seeking a candidate with high level advocacy, negotiation and liaison skills and the ability to develop and manage a range of stakeholder relationships.

Relevant tertiary qualifications will be highly regarded.
