About Port Pirie, SA

Port Pirie is South Australia's first provincial city and a thrilling industrial and commercial centre, which boasts a large market garden as well as a fishing industry. It is located on the eastern shore of Spencer Gulf, 229 kms north of Adelaide.

The area has grown to service minerals processing and agricultural sectors which form the mainstay of the Southern Flinders Ranges economy. A range of engineering and industrial service enterprises exist within the city to service the Zinifex Port Pirie Smelter.

The 'City of Friendly People', is noted for its vibrant sporting culture, great seafood and fishing, as well as its affordability, safe community, pleasant lifestyle, great shopping and excellent health services. It has an excellent education system with four kindergartens, four primary schools, one special school and one high school. There is also a private college as well as a recently established multi-denominational college. The Port Pirie Campus of TAFE SA is the primary vocational training venue for the region.

Port Pirie has many beautiful parks, the picnic spots of Memorial Park and Solomontown Beach, the National Trust Museum and take a look at the largest lead smelter in the world, which processes silver, lead and zinc to be transported from Port Pirie's large port.

About the Opportunity

Community Bridging Services(CBS) Inc. is seeking a full time Senior Case Worker to join its client focused team in Port Pirie, SA.

Reporting to the Jobnet Coordinator, you will be responsible for the implementation of the Jobnet Employment Program for clients in a designated region. The aim of the program is to support clients to find open employment by focusing on their strengths and interests and improving their vocational and community independence skills.

More specifically, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Pre-employment preparation and training;
  • Vocational and non-vocational interventions to address barriers;
  • Employment planning;
  • Job search; and
  • Post placement support for clients who have a disability and/or are disadvantaged.

To be successful in this position, you will require completion of the CBS Work, Social Inclusion and Community Development Program, as well as a Basic Emergency Life Support or Senior First Aid Certificate (both can be completed once employed by CBS). It is desirable, but not essential that you have qualifications in the area of disability, education, community development, counselling or similar human services.

You will need to have experience in working with individuals with a disability / disadvantage or experience in education, employment, personal development and/or recreation. It is also a requirement that you have a knowledge of Equal Opportunity, and Disability Discrimination Act policies and principles, as well as an understanding of the effects of disability/disadvantage on individuals, families and the community and a knowledge of vocational development, further education and/or recreation. Experience in management, training, employment service provision (e.g. DEN/JSA) would be held in high regard.

In support of your qualifications and experience you will able to work effectively within a team and possess good organisation and time management skills. You will also be able to assess the interests and abilities of clients, possess communication and interpersonal skills to effectively relate to clients, their families, advocates or carers and able to communicate and establish networks with colleagues, community, employers and government agencies. 

In addition, you will possess a current driver's licence and will be willing to undergo a Police and Criminal History Check.

The successful applicant will be rewarded with an attractive remuneration package of $54,131 - $58,551 made up of a base salary, 9% super, vehicle for work and private use and a mobile phone allowance of $50 per month. In addition you will also receive salary sacrifice options to significantly increase your take home pay.

Working as part of a close-knit, supportive group, you will benefit from a healthy work/life balance with mostly 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday hours and variety in your day as you will spend 50% to 60% of your time in the office and remainder out with clients.
