Allambee Counselling Inc exists to prevent and/or reduce the trauma and suffering resulting from sexual and family violence.
Allambee has provided free professional counselling to residents of the Peel region, WA since 1993.
As a specialist service Allambee provides medium to long term counselling to individuals and family members aged 13 and over who have been affected by:
- Recent sexual assault
- Past sexual abuse
- Domestic/family violence
About the Opportunity
Allambee Counselling has an exciting opportunity for a skilled and motivated Counsellor to join their dedicated and professional team in Mandurah. This is a Part Time Maternity Leave position, working 2-3 days per week, with the possibility of extension.
Within this role you will be working in a team providing counselling and support services to people in the Peel region who have suffered sexual abuse/assault and/or family violence. This primary aim of the Counsellor is to provide group and/or individual counselling to reduce the effects of trauma on individuals and families, and to undertake community education and awareness programs within the region.
Some of your specific responsibilities will include:
- Assessing clients and establishing counselling goals;
- Providing crisis intervention for clients who have experienced recent sexual assault or disclosure;
- Liaising, negotiating and advocating with government departments and other agencies on behalf of clients;
- Identifying client needs for personal and skills development;
- Giving presentations to community groups and schools on issues relating to sexual assault/abuse and/or family violence;
- Providing an outreach service to areas in the Peel region with a focus on community education and life skills;
- Assisting clients to access health and community services;
- Ensuring that at the end of the counselling process, the client has appropriate plans and supports in place to cope and progress; and
- Preparing and maintaining case notes and client statistics in accordance with agency policy.
The successful candidate will hold a degree in social work and/or post graduate diploma in counselling and will be eligible for membership with the relevant professional association. A background in providing individual and group counselling is required, and specific experience in trauma, sexual assault and/or domestic violence counselling, and appropriate therapeutic models, will also be highly regarded.
Importantly, you will possess proven skills in intervention, designing and facilitating therapy groups, and will have the ability to empower clients to set goals, solve problems, gain insight and develop confidence and skills.
This role will best suit individuals who can use effective interpersonal skills to advocate for clients, liaise with other agencies and relate well with clients and other staff. You will also be a talented self-manager, with the skills to manage stress, reflect on performance, act on feedback, and participate in professional supervision and development.
