The centre provides a range of services including Primary Health Care, Spiritual and Emotional Well Being Development, Youth Services, and Home and Community Care. About the Opportunity
Dandenong and District Aborigines Co-Operative Ltd (DDACL) has an exciting opportunity available for an experienced Receptionist to join its dedicated and supportive team in Dandenong.
Working specifically within the Bunurong Health Service (BHS), the main aim of this varied role is to provide top quality customer service and administrative support to BHS staff, patients and the general public.
Key responsibilities of the role include (but are not limited to):
- Answering incoming calls and assisting clients/visitors with the appointments or enquiries;
- Attending the waiting area, and ensuring that patients and visitors are comfortable and orderly;
- Pulling the patient files for the doctors, and collecting the patient files at the end of the day and putting them back in the file storage cupboard;
- Recording transport requirements for the clients and liaising with the medical driver;
- Receiving parcels and packages delivered to the Service, updating the mail register and arranging for the postage of outgoing mail;
- Assisting in administrative tasks including word processing, record keeping, filing and keeping statistical information;
- Becoming and remaining familiar with the services and programs provided by BHS, and to ensure that sufficient copies of information pamphlets are in stock; and
- Participating in general staff and health team meetings, and to act as secretary to the meetings when required.
Candidates for this role will require previous experience in a Medical Receptionist / Receptionist / Secretarial position, and a Certificate 2 in Office Administration or equivalent. You will have the demonstrated ability to perform a wide range of administrative tasks in a professional and efficient manner.
DDACL is seeking an applicant with excellent written and verbal communication skills, a courteous and polite telephone manner, and a confidence in dealing with difficult situations and/or people. You will have the ability to work effectively as part of a discreet health team, and maintain a high level of confidentiality in relation to patients' personal and medical information. The successful candidate will also possess basic to proficient computer skills in the Microsoft Office suite. Experience using Patient Information Systems such as Communicare or PracSoft will be an advantage.
Ideally, you will possess the ability to communicate effectively with Koori people and be committed to working with the Aboriginal community. Due to the nature of the work, a police check and a 'working with children' check will be carried out before the finalisation of the appointment. Applicants will also require a current drivers licence and basic First Aid Certificate.

You will work office hours 8:45am - 5pm, Monday - Friday. In addition to the normal working hours, there is a possibility of over time on Thursday (till 7:00pm) and on Saturdays if desired.
