Introducing WorldShapers Academy

WorldShapers Academy is committed to transforming lives through learning. Originally established to supply church-based training in the Hemel Hempstead area, WorldShapers has grown to cover a number of projects for especially vulnerable people in the community. These include mentoring projects for primary school children, a special needs school for permanently excluded young people, offender learning, a ministry degree programme and Sure Start Children's Centre that offer play sessions, events, and support for parents.

About the Opportunity

This forward thinking charity is seeking several passionate Play & Outreach Workers to fill vital new positions within their team. These exciting roles require proactive, creative people with the energy and enthusiasm to become part of this pioneering service for children and families.

WorldShapers Academy is seeking individuals with experience in either health, sports/fitness, arts, early years training, music or social work - all for the under 5's. In particular, the charity is in need of an excellent role model for young boys.

WorldShapers is looking for quality candidates who meet the following criteria: 

  • Experienced in working with children and/or parents
  • Hold a relevant degree (preferred)
  • Experienced in working towards government agendas (e.g. Every Child Matters agenda);
  • Passionate about working with families
  • Thrives on meeting new people
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality
  • Is able to work on your own initiative, prioritise and finish tasks;
  • Is able to work in a developing centre where services will need to be shaped and changed continuously to serve the community;
  • Skilled in working on computers, is competent in the use of the internet, Outlook, Word and preferably Excel

Responsibilities include:

  • Organising a variety of sessions for children under 5 and their parents
  • Working alongside families with varying needs on a one-to-one basis
  • Completing administrative tasks and answering phones
  • Writing letters and emails - official and informal
  • Following up and through on areas of responsibility

Worldshapers Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The role does require outreach work and consequently a valid driving licence is vital in order to conduct home visits. All travel will be fully reimbursed. 

The charity is offering a competitive experience and qualification dependent salary of £20,000 - £24,000. Furthermore, the successful applicants will receive accredited training as part of their Continuing Personal Development, which may be put towards a Masters Degree.
