About the Organisation
The Northern Beaches Interchange (NBI) is a community-based organisation that provides a range of respite and recreation services for families in Manly, Warringah and Pittwater who have a resident child or young adult with a disability.
NBI's services aim to be appropriate for individual and family needs and to assist the child or young adult develop social relationships and enjoy recreational experiences.
A range of respite, recreation and support programs are offered including: host family support, flexible respite packages, junior and senior peer support programs, school holiday respite, early intervention playgroup, carer support service and respite camps.
About NBI's Group Recreation Programs
NBI provides recreation, social and respite support to children and young people who have a disability and live at home with their family. The support is provided through regular programs of weekend and evening activities for groups of six to eight participants.
Generally the participants in the programs are children or young adults who are interested in going out and having fun with a group of their peers; and have a range of support needs, with some participants requiring a high level of support.

About the Opportunity
If you are a compassionate and energetic individual, looking to make a significant difference in the lives of others, Northern Beaches Interchange (NBI) is looking for dedicated Trainee Recreation Team Leaders to join their Group Recreation Programs across the Manly, Warringah and Pittwater area.
Within this varied role, you will be given the opportunity and support to become a Team Leader. You will be responsible for the planning and leading of fun recreation activities for groups of young people with disabilities.
More specifically, some of your duties and responsibilities will include:
- Assisting initiating, preparing, structuring and leading group activities;
- Supervising children and / or young people during program activities;
- Transporting participants to activities;
- Promoting the program to activity providers;
- Directing and supervising Recreation Staff and volunteers during activities;
- Maintaining safe and responsible procedures for participants, staff and volunteers during activities;
- Assisting participants with daily living activities;
- Assisting with organising and maintaining equipment / material needs for activities; and
- Assisting with hands-on training of volunteers and attending volunteer training workshops.
Please note, all of these responsibilities are team-based - duties will be shared amongst NBI team members.
To be successful in this role, you will need an understanding of the recreation and social needs of children and young people with a disability, as well as a commitment to the rights of people with a disability. Demonstrated strong leadership and communication skills are essential for this role. You will require well developed skills in planning and administration and be computer literate.
Ideally, you will be a recreation worker, with sound planning skills and the potential to lead. You will have the capacity and drive to learn the skills that will enable you to lead a team and plan programs.
You will also need to hold an unrestricted employment visa, a current Senior First Aid Certificate and a driver's licence, as well as the willingness to undertake training to upgrade to a LR licence.
Experience and / or study in a related area (e.g. recreation, disability or education) will be positively regarded, as will your availability to pick up extra hours during the NSW school holidays.
Most of all, you will be adventurous, playful and dedicated to providing fun activities for children and young adults with disabilities.

The organisation will support your ongoing development with a commitment to a 12 month traineeship in which you will regularly attend job-specific training courses to develop your skills .
An hourly rate circa ($17-$30 per hour) in line with SACS Grade 2 or 3 will be offered to the successful candidate, (commensurate with experience and penalty rates). Team Leader Trainees will be offered a 12 month fixed term position.
