About the Opportunity

Integrated Family & Youth Services (IFYS) has exciting opportunities for Residential Care Workers to join its Residential Care Program on the Gold Coast on a permanent part time or casual basis.

Consistent with the mission of Integrated Family and Youth Services and the Residential Care Program Life Skills framework, these are fantastic roles for individuals with experience in working with young people to provide primary care and support to groups of four to five young people.

Residential Care Workers are responsible for providing a safe and nurturing environment for young people to heal, learn, grow and engage in the world with confidence. The program requires a strong commitment to a strength-based and child-centred approach to working with young people.

Some of your specific duties will include:

  • Providing a high standard of care and safety for young people consistent with the Child Protection Act and Regulations;
  • Creating and maintaining an environment that provides a range of learning opportunities for young people in care and with an emphasis on life skill development within developmental and age appropriate limits and boundaries;
  • Contributing to the development, implementation and review of individual support/action plans for young people, in consultation with the program coordinator and the Department of Communities Child Safety Services;
  • Working with the Program Coordinator to facilitate young people's access to relevant and meaningful programs and resources;
  • Planning and conducting individual and group activities consistent with meeting a young person's needs and goals;
  • Participating in training and development opportunities relevant to child protection and residential care;
  • Contributing to continuous quality/program improvement processes;
  • Providing basic administration support to the Coordinator;
  • Performing all duties consistent with the relevant administrative, financial and asset management policies and procedures;
  • Assisting the Program Coordinator in the preparation of reports; and
  • Undertake other duties as negotiated with the Program Coordinator or Operational Manager.

IFYS is seeking a candidate that can work both with minimal supervision and as part of a team. You will have the ability to support children and young people to achieve agreed goals, and also to work with young people who display challenging and/or complex behaviours.

This position requires a demonstrated capacity to develop and implement life skills support programs and activities. Successful candidates will have a high level of personal integrity with the ability to maintain work and personal boundaries. Relevant qualifications and/or experience will be highly regarded, but are not essential.

You will need to have a Working with Children Blue Card and a willingness to undergo a full criminal history background check. The successful applicants will also hold a current driver's licence and First Aid Certificate (or be willing to obtain within the first six months of employment)
