Leisure Networks develops and uses its wide ranging networks, alliances and capacity to bring together diverse government and non-government organisations to "make things happen". The organisation supports:

  • Community sporting clubs, associations and local physical activity providers to enhance the delivery of active recreation opportunities and participation;
  • Community development that results in more robust and healthy communities; and
  • People with disabilities and all abilities to achieve their goals, aspirations and healthy lifestyles.

About the Project

Leisure Networks works alongside VicHealth in implementing the VicHealth Healthy Sporting Environments Demonstration Project (HSEDP). The aim of the program is to determine the feasibility of achieving widespread and coordinated change in sporting clubs becoming healthy and inclusive environments, to inform the directions of future VicHealth sports funding.

Working with 100 sporting clubs across a number of local government areas, one of the HSEDP's goals is to ensure these clubs are a safe and respectful environment for all members of society, particularly women and people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

About the Opportunity

If you are a 'people person' with a passion for promoting diversity and inclusivity, Leisure Networks is seeking a talented Social Inclusion Officer to work with a wide variety of stakeholders implementing the VicHealth Healthy Sporting Environments Demonstration Project (HSEDP).

Within this role, your primary aim will be to develop and implement strategies that build the capacity of 100 sports clubs to meet minimum standards in relation to the creation of a safe and inclusive environment for women and people from CALD backgrounds.

Reporting to the Healthy Sporting Environments Project Manager, this role is suited to a qualified person who is committed to the ideals of the program, and who has the ability to communicate with all kinds of people and groups, especially at a grassroots level.

More specifically, some of the position's duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Building and fostering partnerships with organisations that support the creation of safe and inclusive club environments;
  • Coordinating training and resources for clubs, to assist their achievement of healthy standards in relation to the creation of safe and respectful clubs, particularly for women and people from culturally diverse communities;
  • Assisting in the ongoing promotion of the HSEDP project through relevant networks and forums;
  • Managing timelines and budget; and
  • Participating in broader project planning with the Healthy Sporting Environments Team, state and regional sporting associations, local clubs and other relevant stakeholders as required.

Leisure Networks is looking for someone who has a demonstrated understanding of the impact of race-based discrimination and violence against women, and has experience in addressing these issues at a community-based level. To be successful in this position, you will hold an appropriate tertiary qualification in Social Sciences, Community Development or similar.

You will have the communication and interpersonal skills to allow to you to engage with stakeholders from a wide range of backgrounds, and the persuasion and advocacy skills to motivate clubs to want to adopt the principles of inclusivity. This may mean adopting different measures for specific clubs and situations, so the ideal candidate will be flexible, analytical, strategic and dynamic.

This role is best suited to an enthusiastic 'go getter' with a background in the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of project work, ideally within the field of community development. You will need a current driver's licence, and be required to obtain a National Police Check and a Working With Children Check before commencement.

This position presents excellent career advancement opportunities to the right candidate, as you liaise and interact with key organisations, government departments, the general public and the media across different areas and locations. Working in a supportive team of five within the larger organisation, your duties will be widely varied and you will enjoy a great deal of autonomy.

The role is full time with a degree of flexibility in terms of hours worked, including some self-management of your own schedule, so you can adjust times to work in with your lifestyle and other commitments.

This opportunity offers an attractive remuneration package of $65,208, commensurate with your experience and qualifications, plus super, full salary sacrificing options and annual leave loading of 17.5%.

Ongoing professional development will be offered to the successful applicant and a high level of support is offered to employees.
