About the Opportunity
Bourke Aboriginal Health Service has an exciting opportunity for two Aboriginal Health Workers (one Male, one Female) to join its dedicated, passionate team in Bourke, NSW.
You will be working in a supportive multi-disciplinary environment, with a focus on responding effectively to the needs of Aboriginal individuals within the Bourke community experiencing problems with Social & Emotional Wellbeing (Mental Health) and Alcohol & Other Drugs.
This is a role in which you will work with a caseload of a specific gender, and the successful applicant must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. An applicant's race and gender are genuine occupational qualifications for these positions, as authorised under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW.
Some of your specific responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the case management of each client from the point of first contact and when necessary referring to further ongoing professional physiological assessment;
- Providing advice and support to BAHS staff about issues facing Aboriginal individuals (of your allocated gender) and communities around social & emotional wellbeing and Alcohol & Other Drugs;
- Advocating for increased access to relevant health and community services for Aboriginal individuals wanting to access mental health treatment;
- Identifying educational/health promotion needs;
- Developing and providing culturally appropriate educational information and resource material;
- Recommending, organising and delivering relevant in-house training to BAHS staff; and
- Providing timesheets, diary of duties, monthly and yearly reports and statistical and other records as required.

Bourke Aboriginal Health Service is seeking a candidate with relevant experience in Mental Health (Emotional & Social Health and Wellbeing) or Alcohol & Other Drugs, plus a demonstrated appreciation of mental illness and drug & alcohol addiction, and their impact, support needs and recovery. You will also require a demonstrated understanding of current issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with regard to mental health and alcohol & drug issues. Relevant qualifications would be highly regarded, however if you have not yet finished your studies, but are enrolled in a relevant discipline, you are still encouraged to apply.

Additional requirements include a current driver's licence, up-to-date first aid and CPR certificate, criminal history check, and 'working with children' clearance.
The successful applicant will be rewarded with an attractive salary circa $814.60 - $944.10 per week, commensurate with your experience and qualifications.
