In 2005, the Australian Federal Government announced the establishment of Family Relationship Centres (FRC) throughout Australia.

A Family Relationship Centre is a place where all Australian families can go to access information and advice on:

  • Building and strengthening existing relationships;
  • Early intervention and prevention services for couples separating;
  • Child-friendly services for families in conflict;
  • Family dispute resolution services; and
  • Parenting plans.

About the Opportunity

Lifeline Community Care QLD (LCCQ) has an exciting opportunity for an Outreach Family Support Officer to join the dedicated Family Relationship Centre team.

This is a part-time position that will see you working 15 hours per week, Monday and Tuesday.

Reporting to the FRC Manager, this role aims to provide initial support to families and carry out initial intakes and assessments. You will also offer administrative support to the FRC team and provide information and resources to families.

More specifically, some of the key job responsibilities of the position will be to:

  • Undertaking an initial intake assessment with clients, which involves assessing their suitability for the service offered by the FRC;
  • Assessing the suitability of clients for family dispute resolution, giving particular consideration to issues such as violence and power imbalance within relationships;
  • Acting as the initial contact for inquiries from solicitors, government agencies, Legal Aid Qld and other referral services;
  • Collaborating with the Service Manager and Senior Practitioner in ensuring optimal outcomes for all parties who access the service; and
  • Maintaining records and preparing accurate reports and case summaries for the use of colleagues and other professionals.

To be suitable for this key position you will possess qualifications in Social Work, Welfare or a releated discipline and have excellent communication skills with the ability to deal with people at all levels. In addition, you will be able to quickly establish a rapport with a diverse range of individual as you conduct assessments to determine their needs.

The successful applicant will have the capacity to build strong networks with professionals in the areas of law, health, welfare and financial advice. Furthemore, you will have the ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve program objectives, deadlines and follow through tasks to completion.

Applicants will be required to have a current driver's licence, a Working with Children Blue Card (or able to obtain one within 3 months of commencement) and will undergo a Criminal History check every 2 years.
