About the Opportunity
Sunshine is seeking a number of full time Case Workers for their Community Justice Program throughout metropolitan Sydney.
You will be working in Sunshine's Pro-Social Activities Project (PSA) which is an innovative pilot project that has been funded by Human Services – Aging, Disability and Home Care (ADHC) for an initial 12 month period, with the scope for further and ongoing development should measurable outcomes meet the desired expectations. You will be expected to assist each client to improve life skills and make choices facilitating reintegration into the community.
Using a 'Strengths, Goals, Needs and Risk' model of psycho-social rehabilitation, this is a challenging role in which you will assist people with a mental illness and intellectual disability to set and reach achievable education, recreation and employment goals.
Some of your specific responsibilities will include:
- Establishing rapport, developing boundaries and framing communication pathways which facilitate a sound caseworker-client relationship;
- Researching and identifying potential education, employment and recreation options appropriate for people with barriers to access this level of community involvement;
- Identifying and specifying existing barriers for each person with an intellectual disability, mental illness or issues relating to incarceration, substance abuse or other as they present;
- Assisting the client to accommodate and overcome identified barriers providing adequate and necessary practical support in order for the client to reach their goals;
- Liaising with brokers, advisers and coordinators to advocate and facilitate necessary support for client attendance and participation at their chosen activity; and
- Assisting the client to create and refine an individually tailored plan using prescribed and agreed CJP PSA program models and tools used in this project.
For these roles, Sunshine is seeking empathetic and personable applicants who are happy to work with a wide cross section of individuals with mental health issues and intellectual disabilities. You will have prior service experience, preferably in a CJP setting or similar, with knowledge of current trends within the mental health sector and extended networks and relationships. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field are desirable.
The successful applicants will demonstrate excellent communication, presentation, leadership and people management skills, and the ability to coach and develop these skills in others. You will have the experience and ability to write comprehensive fact-based reports.
You must have a full and current NSW driver's licence, a Current First Aid Certificate (or the ability to get this qualification within the first three months of appointment), and basic computer literacy. To be eligible for these roles, you must hold Australian residency status or a valid Australian Working Visa, without restrictions.
