About the Region

Wadeye is located 420 km south-west of Northern Territory's capital, Darwin, and is the largest Aboriginal community with a population of 2,500, comprising over 20 tribal groups speaking seven languages. Wadeye offers residents all the basic conveniences, with a post office, grocery store, art gallery, schools, police station, healthcare and an airport with daily flights to Darwin (only 50 minutes).
About the Opportunity
Thamarrurr Development Corporation Ltd (TDC) has an exciting opportunity for skilled and motivated Trainers and Employment Advisors to join the Port Keats team on a full time basis.
As Trainer you will engage with jobseekers to deliver a range of training including work ready training under the provision of the Job Futures program.
Some of your more specific contributions will include:
- Assessing the training needs of clients;
- Adapting the structured program to suit the needs of individual clients;
- Preparing and delivering a 1-2 week program to up to 10 clients;
- Visiting employers and assess needs and assisit with capacity building; and
- Provide ongoing training, providing 'work ready sessions' for new employer sponsors.
The successful applicant will require a Certificate IV in Training & Assessment.
Experience in coaching/mentoring/training Indigenous people in the area of employment as well as experience in developing training out on site or in remote communities is not essential but would be highly regarded.
As Employment Advisor you will assist jobseekers to achieve meaningful employment, access training programs, and build employable skills.
Reporting to the Employment and Training Manager, some of the key responsibilities of these diverse and rewarding roles will be to:
- Research and analyse the demands of the labour market and job opportunities;
- Complete assessments to identify the actions required to address employment barriers;
- Work closely with job seekers to build on their strengths and enhance their motivation;
- Develop Employment Pathway Plans (EPP) to provide a clear path of progression;
- Maintain current knowledge of the economic environment and training opportunities;
- Maintain knowledge of Indigenous cultural support services available in each community;
- Develop partnerships with employers to understand their business and labour needs;
- Approach employers on behalf of job seekers to secure work experience and investigate job possibilities; and
- Maintain documentation and records in line with DEEWR and JOB futures requirements.
Ideally, the successful candidates will hold knowledge of DEEWR compliance, training programs and governmental requirements, or have the ability to obtain quickly. Experience in the private not for profit sector will be also be a key advantage.
TDC is looking for a people-person with the ability to build positive relationships with both employers and job seekers. Knowledge of local industries, labour market trends and experience of working with traditional Aboriginal people in an employment role will also be highly regarded.
Furthermore, a Certificate IV Workplace Trainer and a NT ‘C' Class Drivers License or equivalent is desirable.
