About the Organisation

STEPS is a vibrant employment, community service and training organisation, assisting people with a disability to become active and contributing members of their communities.

All people deserve opportunity to reach their potential. In 1989 STEPS was established, with a focus of bringing self-esteem and quality of life to people with a disability, through assisting them to attain gainful employment.

STEPS' Community Services and Training Divisions have since been launched, delivering a broader range of services with the same commitment to the original values and mission of the organisation.

STEPS principal Funding source is the Federal Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR), and is a quality accredited organisation, operating in accordance with the Disability Service Standards and the Australian Quality Training Framework.

About the Opportunity

STEPS is growing, and as a result is seeking Workplace Assessors to work and travel throughout Victoria or New South Wales. Opportunities exist on both a full and part-time basis.

As part of a national panel of assessors, your main aim will be to conduct Supported Wage, Ongoing Support and Workplace Modification assessments in accordance with contractual guidelines.

Some of your day-to-day responsibilities will be:

  • Supported Wage Assessments
    • Identify and consult with all relevant parties (i.e. DES, SWMU, the union, employer and participant etc.) to determine requirements prior to conducting assessments
    • Conduct initial productivity assessments and 12 month re-assessments (where applicable)
    • Compile and submit wage assessment results to relevant parties, including the SWMU, Industrial Court, employer, participant and DES
  • Ongoing Support Assessments
    • Undertake Ongoing Support Assessments to ascertain the participant’s ongoing support needs by interviewing program providers and reviewing relevant documents, interviewing the participant and their employer, and conducting a workplace assessment of the participant
  • Workplace Modifications
    • Conduct workplace assessments, within the scope of the incumbent’s knowledge and experience, for the purpose of determining a suitable match between the participant, their job and the workplace modification
  • Undertake relevant administrative tasks, ensuring all documentation is created, maintained and stored in accordance with contractual guidelines and the requirements of STEPS

The successful candidates must be approved by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, therefore you must possess a minimum of a diploma or higher-level qualification in one or more of the following fields:
  • Occupational Therapy;
  • Psychology;
  • Physiotherapy;
  • Rehabilitation Counsellor;
  • Vocational Training; or
  • Other diploma or higher-level qualification which DEEWR considers is relevant to providing the required assessment services.

You will require a minimum of 2 years practical experience in the disability employment or related sectors. A Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or Assessment and Workplace Training would be highly regarded, but is not essential.

STEPS is seeking candidate with a knowledge and understanding of industry building and access codes, employment assistance options available to people with disabilities, and relevant OH&S, industrial relations and anti-discrimination legislation.

Key to your success in this position will be a flexible and enthusiastic approach to your work, strong communication and organisational skills, excellent assessment and report-writing skills, and the proven ability to work independently and as part of a high performing team.

A current C Class driver's licence and Federal Police Check are essential.

These varied positions offers much more than a 'desk job' by giving you the opportunity to get out of the office! Both roles will require applicants to be very mobile and will mainly see you travelling throughout your designated Victorian or New South Wales territory. Periodic interstate travel may also be required.

In return for your hard work and dedication, you will be rewarded with a competitive base salary circa $53,334 + 9% super. Salary sacrificing options also exist, to increase your take-home pay.  All 'tools of the trade' will be provided including a vehicle for business and personal use, a laptop with internet connection, and mobile phone.

Five weeks annual leave (prorated for part-time) and ongoing professional development opportunities will further increase job satisfaction.

These are fantastic opportunities to advance your career with a vibrant and well respected community organisation. Apply now!
