About the Organisation

Servicing the community for over 30 years, Bonnie Women's Refuge Ltd has been providing a range of services to women and their children escaping domestic and family violence. Bonnie works to enhance womens' skills, knowledge and capacities through the provision of information, referral, support, counselling and advocacy to enable women to make informed choices and enhance their opportunity to participate in social, economic and cultural life and activities in the community.

Bonnie currently operates 2 Crisis Accommodation and 26 transitional properties.

Bonnie Women's Refuge Ltd is now operating with a grant from the Department of Community Services (DoCS) under the Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP) and works within the SAAP food practice Guidelines.

About the Opportunity

Bonnie Women's Refuge Ltd has a fantastic opportunity for a full-time Case Manager/Project Officer to join the team in a locum position for six months (with view to permanent) at a women's crisis accommodation service in South West Sydney.

The aim of this role is to provide sensitive and appropriate services to women and their children as well as working as an advocate with women and children who are survivors of domestic violence. You will be following Bonnie's guidelines for Case Management while working within the Aims, Policies and Procedures of the refuge and within Feminist philosophy/framework.

More specifically this role involves:

  • Conducting client consults, assessments and developing, monitoring and implementing case management plans;
  • Liaising with police department regarding the early intervention of domestic violence;
  • Providing information, referrals and advocacy services;
  • Using your skills and knowledge in the identification and planning of case management, development and education regarding drug and alcohol issues;
  • Providing follow-up support to women and children exiting the service;
  • Working in partnership with mainstream service providers and organisations to address the needs of women and children;
  • Organising and conducting external activities for women and their children;
  • Encouraging positive parenting skills and strategies; and
  • Assist in maintaining an effective work environment by working to achieve outcomes and maintaining appropriate work relationships.

The successful applicant will require relevant qualifications (e.g. Diploma in Community Welfare or equivalent) and must have experience of providing services to, and working with women and children experiencing and/ or escaping domestic/family violence and other related issues.

Ideally you will also have at least 2 years experience in a case management role. Candidates with knowledge or experience of working in crisis situations/ residential settings will be highly regarded.

To achieve in this vital role, you will have excellent written, verbal, negotiation and advocacy skills and be able to use them effectively to work with women and children in crisis. You will be computer literate and able to work on a rotating on-call roster. Although not essential, a First Aid Certificate, relevant community language and experience in a crisis accommodation setting would be desirable.
