Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology services the Brisbane metropolitan area and regional areas extending as far north as Cairns and south to Coffs Harbour.

About the Opportunity

Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology has exciting opportunities for full time new graduate Medical Scientists to work in their Brisbane Hospital Laboratories and Taringa Cytogenetics laboratory.

These positions suit self-motivated individuals able to work with minimum supervision in an enthusiastic team environment. Rostered after hours and weekend work may apply after a training period.

Our Brisbane Hospital Laboratories are stat labs and are located at Greenslopes (Greenslopes Private Hospital), Auchenflower (Wesley Private Hospital), South Brisbane (Mater Private Medical Centre) and Chermside (Chermside Medical Complex). All multi skilled scientists receive comprehensive training in Haematology/Coagulation, Biochemistry, Transfusion Science and limited Microbiology.

Our Cytogenetics department (located at Taringa) is one of the busiest and most diverse laboratories of its type in Australia, offering a complete range of cytogenetic and FISH testing encompassing prenatal, haematological and constitutional studies. This provides an ideal platform to gain broad experience in the field. Human Genetics Society of Australasia accreditation is available and encouraged after three years experience.

The main aim of these varied roles is to perform medical laboratory testing for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases and other disorders.

 We are looking for the following:

  • Degree in Medical Science or Medical Laboratory Science;
  • Recently graduated or to complete the degree at the end of 2010;
  • Flexibility to work a range of shifts which may include 24 hour rosters and weekends;
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member;
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise workload and work methodically in a fast paced environment; and 
  • Focus on provision of quality customer service while employing an enthusiastic and motivated attitude.

Some of the more specific responsibilities and duties of these positions will include:

  • Performing all tasks relevant to a particular shift or particular section of the laboratory;
  • Upholding quality standards within the laboratory by adhering to departmental quality system procedures;
  • Complying with the occupational health and safety policy and programs to ensure personal health and safety, and the health and safety of others in the workplace; and
  • Satisfying the requirements of customers, both internal and external, through the provision of reliable and efficient service levels.

The high level of service provided by Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology is delivered by a dedicated staff comprising of pathologists, scientists, technicians, laboratory assistants, collection personnel, couriers, computer personnel, pathology services assistants and other support staff.
