Centacare Tasmania and Red Cross have joined forces to deliver a new Specialist Intervention Tenancy Service (SITS) and are seeking Support Workers to be based in the North West, South East and South West of Tasmania.

These are newly created roles with state-wide responsibility, working within a program that provides intensive support for clients with multiple and complex needs (which may include issues with mental health, alcohol and other drugs, antisocial behaviour, living skills and disabilities) who are change ready and in need of intensive support for up to two years.

SITS workers will work closely with Colony 47's Same House Different Landlord, and will deliver intensive support and case management to their tenants for up to 24 months.  Case Loads will be low, providing opportunity for workers to assist clients to address issues and achieve long term positive change. Support provided through SITS will focus on assisting clients to increase their capacity to live independently and participate in the community, through provision of services such as life and tenancy skill development, emotional support, crisis and therapeutic intervention, information and referral. 

Reporting to the Program Coordinator through a Senior Practitioner your day to day duties will involve: 

  • Bio-psycho-social assessment;
  • Development of a comprehensive Case Management Plan with the client, articulating the client’s goals and individually tailored interventions;
  • Provision of or referral to therapeutic and specialist interventions as required;
  • Engagement/re-engagement with mainstream health and human services;
  • Forming linkages with training, employment and other social support services;
  • Supporting the development of practical skills to be able to live independently including tenancy support and life coaching (for instance, lawn mowing, gardening, meals preparation, paying bills and budgeting, negotiating with other services);
  • Supporting clients transition to social housing tenancy under the Same House Different Landlord program, private tenancy or home ownership;
  • Undertake pre and post-measurement of health and wellbeing outcomes for clients focused on three areas of the client’s life: trauma recovery; mental and physical health; and social inclusion (housing, independent living skills, support networks, employment and training); and
  • Participate in fortnightly clinical and operational supervision.

The successful applicants will hold qualifications in Psychology, Social Work or a related discipline. Applicants with a diploma level qualification must have considerable experience and demonstrate a capacity to work with high and complex needs clients within a practical and therapeutic case management context with capacity to implement a range of theories and models of practice.

These roles require highly organised candidates with experience in providing case work, including all associated reporting, and conducting bio – psycho-social assessments. Within each day you will be communicating with a diverse range of people, both staff and clients, so you must be a highly effective communicator, in written, verbal and interpersonal capacities. If you excel in problem solving, multi-tasking, and finding creative solutions this role will suit you.

You will be highly client focused and demonstrate a genuine passion for assisting people with high and complex needs, and the flexibility to work outside of normal business hours when required.

You will be working as part of a combination of teams from both Centacare Tasmania and Red Cross with substantial experience in providing multidisciplinary and specialist support to clients with a multiplicity of need and a determination to work together to achieve positive client outcomes.
