About the Organisation
The Community Access & Transition Service Inc. (CATS) is an organisation established in Ipswich providing a service to assist people with disabilities aged 16-25 years, who live at home with their families, make the transition from school to community life. CATS has been operating in the Ipswich Community since 1994. CATS provides an individualised service which enables young people to achieve personal goals, skill development and participation in community life. This is achieved through Lifestyle Support Workers providing one to one support and assistance to people with disabilities in a range of activities eg volunteer work, TAFE, leisure options, independent travel skills, independent living skills, and social skills etc.
The Me, Myself and Ipswich project is a new addition to CATS's programs and is committed to getting young people excited about actively engaging in the program so that they are able to make informed choices about self care, health, first aid, personal safety, road safety, budgeting, money handling, life & living, sexuality, relationships, the ways to speak, feel, look and touch and much, much more for the rest of their lives. It is a preventative life skills resource that aims to empower young people to make better lifestyle choices, engage with community health issues, become better informed citizens, and access their community more appropriately.
About the Opportunities
Community Access & Transition Service Inc. (CATS) has fantastic opportunities for a part-time Life Skills Course Coordinator and casual Lifestyle Support Workers to join their team in Ipswich.
Working within the Me, Myself and Ipswich project, these roles will work in conjunction to deliver a service that is dedicated to developing skills of young people with disabilities to promote and support their participation in community life.
Reporting to the Management Consultant, the Lifestyle Skills Course Coordinator will work 15 hours per week. You will be responsible for efficiently and effectively coordinating and facilitating the Me, Myself and Ipswich project. More specifically, this will involve:
- Delivering the curriculum of the course through facilitation, planning, monitoring and review;
- Supervising lower classified staff involved in the delivery of the course;
- Facilitating learning programs that reflect individual and group needs;
- Developing course curriculum that addresses and meets the developmental and skills based needs of the client group; and
- Maintaining up to date and organised client documentation including learning programs, reviews, training documents and evidence of course participation/development.
The successful applicant will hold qualifications in a relevant sector such as Education, Workplace Training, or a combination of similar qualifications and experience. You will have a demonstrated background in planning, developing, monitoring and reviewing individual learning programs and outcomes. Additionally, you will have high quality supervisory and leadership skills, with the proven ability to manage a complex project in the community sector.
The Lifestyle Support Worker will provide support and assistance to young adults with disabilities to achieve personal goals, ambitions and skills development through participating in the broader community. You will facilitate the development of social networks and supports for each individual within their community. Your duties will include:
- Undertaking goals setting and planning with each young person;
- Investigating, organising and establishing links with the young person and their local community (e.g. volunteer work, social, education, recreational);
- Encouraging and supporting the individual to try new activities and experiences relevant to them;
- Providing transitional support to supported young adults with disabilities who move from home to independent/supported accommodation in developing household living skills; and
- Breaking down barriers in access and acceptance within the community.
To succeed in this role, you will have either qualifications in Behavioural Science, Community Services or Disabilities Studies, or an equivalent level expertise and experience in similar roles. You will need to be flexible in the times and days you can work, and have a roadworthy vehicle and current driver's licence.
For both roles, CATS is looking for personable, friendly and "can do" individuals with excellent communication skills and the ability to establish an effective rapport with clients and their families. You will have sound knowledge and understanding of current practices, philosophy and trends in the area of further education and disability, and be able to work effectively in both team and autonomous environments. You will hold, or be willing to obtain, a current Criminal History Screening Positive Notice card and a Working With Children Blue Card.
Most importantly, you will be passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of young people with disabilities in the Ipswich community.
The part-time Life Skills Course Coordinator will earn $26.21 per hour, while the casual Lifestyle Support Workers will enjoy attractive remuneration of $25.75 per hour, plus penalty rates when applicable.
