The organisation is focused on reducing the levels of family violence in the area, as well as improving the status and self-esteem of the community's indigenous residents. The organisation also addresses social issues and problems of domestic and family violence, child abuse and child neglect, drug and alcohol abuse, youth suicide, youth crime, teenage pregnancy and family conflicts.

About the Opportunity
Due to expansion of services, the NPA Family and Community Services ATSI Corporation has an exciting opportunity for a motivated Intensive Family Support Officer to join their dedicated team in Bamaga, QLD.
Reporting to the Team Leader Child Wellbeing Unit, the purpose of this position is to work with those parents referred by the Department of Child Safety, QLD Education or who have self referred, who are experiencing difficulties in their role as a parent, assisting them to develop more appropriate skills to be able to better care for their children. Your caseload will include approximately 20 clients, including working intensively with up to 5 new families every 3 months.
More specifically, some of your duties will be to:
- Work directly with families in areas that may include development of skills in budgeting, home management, appropriate care of children, personal issues;
- Counsel with individuals and couples on a variety of personal matters;
- Adopt a Case Management approach with each client;
- Measure client outcomes for reporting purposes to the funding department;
- Coordinate other support agencies and personnel as identified in the initial case plan to work with the family or to provide information and supports;
- Maintain client files, with regular and appropriate recording of progress; and
- Participate in community awareness events on child protection and youth issues conducted by the Child Wellbeing Unit.
The successful candidate will require qualifications in Social Work, Community Welfare, Counselling, Psychology or a similar field, as well as experience in working with families on relationship issues, child neglect and/or domestic and family violence. You will have previous experience in conducting workshops or one to one education with parents on budgeting, home management and child rearing practices, as well as excellent communication skills, including negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution.
Ideally, you will also have experience working with indigenous people, and knowledge of current social and health issues affecting the community.
In addition, the successful applicant will possess a current driver's licence as well as eligibility for a Children's Commission Working with Children suitability blue card. You must also be willing to undergo a criminal record check.

The successful applicant will enjoy a generous remuneration package of $65,000. Furthermore, you will receive reimbursement for up to $2,500 relocation costs to the area, and fully furnished accommodation in Bamaga for $60 per week.
In reward for your hard work, you will enjoy generous leave provisions, including 4 weeks annual leave, plus 10 days over the Christmas period, and another week remote leave. On top of this, NPA will provide you with $2,000 of airfares p.a. for personal leave and 17.5% leave loading!
