Premier Youthworks is a private organisation providing specialist support services to young people who have experienced extreme trauma and neglect in their lives. The organisation provides emergency, short term and medium term residential care, with individual programs developed and implemented for each young person. About the Opportunity

Premier Youthworks has an exciting full-time opportunity for a motivated Area Manager to lead their NSW team, based in the Newcastle office.

In this pivotal leadership role, you'll take responsibility for ensuring the ongoing success of Premier Youthworks' NSW operations, in terms of services, policies, costs, resources and employees. Your transition into this role will be made easier with the newly-promoted incumbent onsite to mentor and guide you through the start-up phase, allowing you to get to know the company and its dedicated and committed team of people.

This is a wide-ranging position, but some of your more specific duties will include:

  • Interviewing, hiring, training, appraising, rewarding and disciplining employees; 
  • Coordinating operations and services in accordance with Premier Youthworks' policies, principles, and procedures;
  • Reviewing costs and modifying operations and inventory control programs;
  • Reviewing operations and services of similar organisations and directing employees in developing new ideas to uplift services to the community;
  • Directing preparation of accounting records; and
  • Recommending budgets to management.

The successful applicant will be an experienced Manager with the proven ability to lead and motivate teams to meet legal obligations and maintain ethical behaviour. You'll bring a strong commercial acumen to the role with the ability to implement business plans, along with a passion for empowering and equipping young people to become contributing members of the community. Qualifications in a relevant field such as Youth Work, Welfare, Community Services or Business Administration will be beneficial, but are not essential.

Importantly, you will be an enthusiastic team player, with strong written and verbal communication skills and significant abilities in conflict resolution and mediation. You'll have a proven record in building relationships and working closely with a range of stakeholders, including service users, management, the general community, government departments and other agencies. You'll be skilled in confidently making effective decisions and solving problems under pressure, and you'll need the computer skills to comfortably use contact management systems, internet, spreadsheets and word processing software.

All applicants require a current driver's licence, while training in OH&S will be advantageous.
