About Centacare - SWBCOP

South West Brisbane Community Options Project (SWBCOP) is part of Community Support Services Centacare, a social services arm of the Catholic Church. SWBCOP are committed to providing a high standard of individually tailored and flexible support services which are responsive to an individual's cultural and lifestyle choices. These support services enhance dignity, independence and an individual’s ability to remain living in his/her chosen environment. Support services are directed at improving the quality of life for people who are frail from ageing (including Veterans); and may be living with mental illness; or people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness; or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and younger people who have a disability.

About the Opportunity

SWBCOP has fantastic opportunities for part time and casual Community Support Workers to join their teams based across Brisbane, working in areas such as Greenslopes, Inner Brisbane South, West End, Highgate Hill, Upper Mt Gravatt, Mt Gravatt, Oxley, Corinda, Graceville, Inala, Forest Lake, Doolandella, Richlands, Durack and Goodna.

There are currently eight roles on offer: 6 Part-time and 2 Casual. Candidates must be available to work shifts between 7.30am - 6pm including weekends and public holidays when required.

In these roles, your primary objective is to work under the direction of the SWBCOP Program Managers and Client Care Coordinators to provide care to eligible people within their community that reflects their needs; enhance their independent living skills and enable them to remain living in their chosen environments.

In achieving this, some of your duties will include:

  • Personal Care, assisting clients to bathe and dress;
  • Medication, prompting and reminders;
  • Domestic Assistance, including significant household cleaning, some laundry and ironing and meal preparation;
  • Social Support, including grocery shopping, paying bills, and assisting clients to attend regular appointments and recreational activities, which may include handling complex behaviour;
  • Respite Duties, in home and centre based;
  • Maintaining a high standard of personal and professional behaviour;
  • Observing Workplace Health & Safety practices;
  • Maintaining client/carer/family confidentiality; and
  • Observing and providing updates/reports to Program Managers.

The Ideal Candidate

SWBCOP is looking for dedicated individuals who are genuinely committed to enhancing the quality of life for people within community care programs.

The organisation is looking for candidates with:

  • Certificate III in Home and Community Care, Disability or Aged Care;
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar position within community and aged care;
  • Current QLD drivers licence, and a reliable registered vehicle with appropriate insurance and a mobile phone (fuel and phone allowances provided); and
  • Possession or willingness to obtain a Blue Card, Positive Exemption Notice Card and a Queensland Police Check
  • First Aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain)

The successful applicants will need to be physically fit and have a high level of interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Proven skills in organisation, time management, team work, decision making and problem solving skills are required, as is a strong understanding of issues that are encountered by those who are frail from ageing, people with disabilities and people suffering from mental health illness.

In addition, you will have the ability to work autonomously, have a non-judgmental attitude, and an understanding of the lifestyle support associated with community living.
