About the Opportunity

Centacare has an excellent opportunity for a full time Case Manager to join their team in Mount Isa.

In this role, you will provide intervention strategies, education and support services to clients, including indigenous communities, young people aged 12-18 years and their families and families at risk of becoming homeless.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide support appropriate to target group and develop early intervention strategies to engage clients to achieve goals;
  • Program Development and implementation including contributing to planning and provision of community education and support and Centacare program procedures;
  • Assessment and Case Management and maintaining appropriate files and records;
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of relevant community partnerships by networking and promoting the program;
  • Attendance and participation in meetings, professional supervision and professional development both internal and external; and
  • Travel and provide services to other centres as required, and comply with legislation, service agreement and Quality Management System requirements.

Centacare is seeking a candidate who holds a tertiary degree (or equivalent experience) in Social Work, Psychology or Behavioural Sciences, and membership (or eligibility for membership) of a relevant professional association. You will also need demonstrated experience in working with adolescents and families, as well as demonstrated skills and experience in culturally appropriate community work, liaison and case management.

Demonstrated experience in working with individuals and families in a primary setting is essential, including practical knowledge of case work/management approaches and a broad range of cultural, social and theoretical frameworks in supporting young people and their families. Along with this, you'll need a knowledge and understanding of the local issues associated with the target group, especially in indigenous communities, including an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

The successful candidate will demonstrate highly developed teamwork and communication skills both written and verbal, in order to work with a broad based network of service providers and a culturally diverse clientele. As such, you will need the demonstrated ability to liaise, consult and cooperate with relevant community groups, services and agencies in the provision of services, and the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people.

You will be required to hold a current driver's licence, and must have, or be willing to obtain, a Positive Notice for Child Related Employment from the Commission for Children, Young People and Child Guardian.

Whilst not essential knowledge, skills and experience in group work, community education and training, and indigenous services would be highly regarded.
