About the Opportunity

CatholicCare Canberra & Goulburn has an outstanding opportunity for a compassionate and patient Disability Support Worker Trainee to join their team based in Canberra.

Under the direction and instruction of experienced Case Managers, this role will be responsible for providing a level of support to clients in a range of Disability and Aged Care programs. Through your work, you will enable clients to achieve their personal goals and participate as valued members of the community, while you gain hands-on experience towards a formal qualification in Disability.

Each day will be individualised to your clients' personal needs, but generally, you can expect your duties to include:

  • Providing individuals with a physically and emotionally secure environment, and promoting their physical, emotional, social and intellectual well-being;
  • Supporting clients with all aspects of daily living, such as personal care, domestic support, social/community support, light home maintenance, communication, respite and transport;
  • Assisting in developing and implementing your clients' training and individual plans;
  • Maintaining accurate records, write case notes and produce reports; and
  • Liaising with clients, families, colleagues and significant others with a high degree of confidentiality and sensitivity.

CatholicCare Canberra & Goulburn is looking for a supportive and empathetic team player with a passion for working with and caring for people with a disability. To qualify for this Traineeship, you must not hold any qualifications higher than a Certificate 2 in any field, and you must be willing to enter into and complete a Traineeship with Capital Careers and the Australian Apprenticeships Centre.

The ideal applicant will be willing to learn, with proven experience working independently. You'll need to show the initiative to adapt to different situations, and be flexible with in your day-to-day duties, with basic cooking and cleaning skills. You'll be a confident and enthusiastic individual who understands the importance of good time management and is able to effectively handle high pressure situations. All applicants must hold a current driver's licence or be able to access reliable transport across the ACT to attend shifts in various locations. You'll also need to hold (or be willing to obtain) a current First Aid Certificate, and will be willing to undertake a Police Character Check.

You must be available to work flexible shifts, from a minimum of 20 hours up to 38 hours per week (including at least 3 hours study/training), that may at times include sleepover shifts.
