About Contact Inc
Launched over 3 decades ago, Contact Inc is a follow-on initiative from the International Year of the Child and provides services for isolated children, families and communities. The new Children's Mobile service will aim to provide a cost-effective way of bringing these services to small, geographically widespread of isolated communities, in particular to those where there are no alternate services or gaps in service provision.
The Mobile children's service works specifically within the early childhood educational sector and, as it evolves, will serve as the pilot programme for an expanding service-delivery model. Though based in Alice Springs, this service provides a range of child and family programs in the Ti Tree and Utopia Homelands regions, including play sessions with children and caregivers with the possibility to extend to adjunct early education and care programs as well as holiday programs and other special community supports
Funding is provided by both The Yuligilbar Foundation and the Tim Fairfax Family Foundation for the service, as well as the Federal Government for an evaluation strategy.

About the Opportunity
Contact Inc has an exciting opportunity for a Mobile Children's Service Family Worker to join their team in Alice Springs, and servicing the Ti Tree and Utopia Homelands regions.
This is a full time 12 month position with the possibility of renewal subject to funding.
In this key role, you will be supporting and assisting the Mobile Coordinator in the day-to-day delivery of children's services and family programs.
More specifically, some of your day-to-day duties will include:
- Contributing to the development of programs to support families;
- Supporting families participation and involvement with their children within the Mobile programs and activities;
- Assisting within the provision of early experiences for young children in all aspects of overall development and health;
- Collaborating with team members to develop culturally relevant family programs to support parenting skills;
- Contributing within strategies to identify child and family related needs.
To be successful in this position, you will hold formal tertiary qualifications, Diploma or higher in Social Welfare, Health or allied areas and a strong knowledge of the social contexts, needs and sensitivities of the Aboriginal, Northern Territory and other communities in remote areas.
You will have an understanding of relevant Federal and Territory legislation and how this relates to the care and protection of children in the Northern Territory.
You're experience working with families using a partnership, strength-based and family centered approach will assist you in this rewarding role. Knowledge and understanding of the importance of the 'early years' and child development is essential.
You'll have extensive experience in working with families within the community sector, along with excellent communication skills to enable you to relate to a broad cross section of the community as well as computer literacy and reporting skills. You will be a reliable and self-motivated individual who will enjoy working in a team environment.
A current manual driver's licence is essential for this role, as is a preparedness to travel away from home and the office base on a regular basis. Due to the nature of the position, you will need a reasonable level of physical stamina to tolerate extensive off-road travel and the regular packing and unpacking of the Mobile vehicle.
Additional requirements include a willingness to undertake a Working with Children Check, 4WD and basic vehicle maintenance training, First Aid training and a medical assessment.
Although not essential, previous experience working in rural and remote areas, specifically in the Northern Territory and experience in working with Aboriginal children, families and communities would be highly regarded. Experience working with a team in evolving new programs, community-based Management Committee and in reporting processes would also be desired. Knowledge and understanding of community development principles and of child and family agencies in Alice Springs would be advantageous.
Ideally, the successful applicant will have a good sense of humour and a willingness to commit to one year of employment with Contact Inc. with the option for renewal dependent on funding.
