About the Opportunity
IAMGOLD has a unique opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join their dedicated team in Longueuil, Québec (Just 20 minutes outside of Montreal).
Within this pivotal position, you will be responsible for coordinating activities to support the operations and maintenance groups, and ensuring service and/ or operating standards are met; Improving system reliability and efficiency, safety, equipment control, and procedures related to mechanical engineering; and Contributing to the design and development of processes, practices and methodologies in mechanical engineering.
Specific responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
- Supervising the selection, purchase, on-site installation and commissioning of the mechanical equipment;
- Establishing standards and specifications for the Engineering group and participating in feasibility studies in the final mechanical designs;
- Overseeing the Request for Proposal (RFP) processes related to the projects including negotiations with suppliers;
- Approving mine site mechanical drawings and following up to ensure drawings are being used appropriately;
- Ensuring commissioning and troubleshooting of the mechanical equipment at project locations;
- Researching information to support decision making and improving processes, technologies or methodologies;
- Keeping on top of trends related to mechanical engineering and incorporating this information into work assignments and approach;
- Analyzing and interpreting information such as reports related to mechanical engineering; and
- Actively seeking mentorship and learning to improve technical knowledge and skill set.
IAMGOLD is seeking a self-motivated candidate with a degree in Mechanical Engineering coupled with 5 years related work experience. A formal professional or technical designation is essential. Ideally you will have experience within the mining industry in a leadership position.
Knowledge of pump and piping systems, water modeling, structural design, conveyor systems, instrumentation and controls will be pivotal to your success.
Additionally, you will be bilingual in English and French, the ability to speak Spanish would be an asset.
You must have exceptional interpersonal, oral communication and technical writing skills. You will be extremely well organized, with proficiency in computer applications and software, specifically MS Office and Oracle.
