About Centacare - BRIDGE Program
Centacare, values dignity, respect and justice for all. Currently, Centacare in the Diocese of Townsville has about 160 staff with offices in Bowen, Cloncurry, Mt Isa, Normanton and Townsville. In addition, Centacare staff provide services in Richmond, Julia Creek, Palm Island, Collinsville, Charters Towers, Ingham and Ayr. This area is about 23% of the landmass of Queensland.
BRIDGE is an intensive prevention and early intervention service for children and young people (unborn – 18 years) and their families with the aim of enhancing family dynamics and promote healthy relationships by utilising the strategies of individual counselling, family counselling, case management and group work.
BRIDGE assists and supports people through -
Counselling and information:
- Developmental stages , behavioural management, parenting skills, trauma, grief and loss and anger management
Case management and support:
- Household management, implementing parenting strategies, budgeting and general support
Group Work:
- bullying, relationships, parenting, emotions and mental health

About the Opportunity
Due to continual expansion, Centacare has a fantastic opportunity for a Counsellor to join their Child & Family Team in Mt Isa within the BRIDGE program.
The Counsellor is primarily responsible for counselling children, adolescents and their families.
More specifically, general responsibilities will include;
- Contributing to the planning and provision of community education and support in accordance with Centacare and program requirements;
- Providing high quality counselling services to clients of Centacare;
- Conducting assessments of clients and making appropriate referrals as necessary;
- Maintaining appropriate files, records and completing other required documentation within Agency policies and procedures;
- Participating in internal and external meetings;
- Representing and promoting Centacare in the wider community by engaging in and developing strong networks and partnerships;
- Actively participating in the process of professional supervision;
- Contributing to a culture of continuous improvement; and
- Other duties as directed by the line manager.
About You
Centacare is seeking a dedicated individual who is genuinely committed to enhancing the quality of life of children, adolescents and their families. Possession of a Degree in Social Work, Psychology or Behavioural Sciences and a membership (or eligibility for membership) of a relevant professional association is essential. Successful candidates will also be required to possess (or be eligible to obtain) a current Positive Notice for Child Related Employment ("Blue Card" and yellow card exemption) for Children, Young People and Child Guardian.
Only candidates who can demonstrate an ability to understand and to describe family functioning in a broad range of cultural and social contexts, as well as some knowledge of abuse and dysfunction within families, will be considered. Furthermore, those candidates with an understanding of and a demonstrated ability to utilise different theoretical frameworks and counselling approaches will be held in high regard.
You will have a demonstrated ability to work as part of team to fulfill program and organisation goals and experience, and have the ability to acquire skills in community education or group work.
Accordingly, highly developed written and verbal communication skills and a current Driver's Licence are essential.
To reward your hard work and commitment, Centacare will offer attractive remuneration circa $54,195.94 - $59,181.12, depending on your qualifications and experience. In addition to this, general salary sacrifice packaging of up to $24,000 will significantly increase your take home pay.
