About the Organisation

The Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) is a non-profit membership based organisation, with a small and dedicated team who work energetically with a wide range of partners, businesses and stakeholders to support the growth and sustainability of the tourism industry.

As the State peak body for tourism, QTIC provides a broad range of membership services and maintaining a strong industry representation across all relevant forums. QTIC is owned and governed by its members through member based Councils, Boards and Committees.

QTIC Skills Link is an Industry Skills Body which liaises with government and industry stakeholders to inform and influence the development of education, training and skilling solutions that support industry workforce development.

About the Opportunity

The Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Training/Education Manager.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Training/Education Manager is responsible for the strategic development and maintenance of industry, education and training networks as the essential vehicle for collecting and disseminating, skilling and workforce information.

As well as being responsible for the general day-to-day management of the Industry Skill Body and its staff, some of your key duties will include:

  • Attracting  and overseeing the implementation of suitable grant funds for the benefit of industry skilling solutions;
  • Providing strategic business development and policy advice through research and funding submissions;
  • Developing, implementing and monitoring the Tourism and Hospitality Workforce Development Plan;
  • Promoting the relationships between workforce skills and enterprise development through marketing and communications initiatives including monthly e-new updates;
  • Preparing and reviewing financial projections and targets; and
  • Responding to general inquiries regarding career advice, training course and material.

The ideal candidate will have a high level of experience in Vocational Education and Training (VET) including experience of AQTF (Australian Qualification Training Framework), Government funding and training packages, preferably SIT07. Additionally, you will have an understanding of the current and evolving context of VET and the issues impacting the tourism and hospitality industries.

Ideally you will have a working knowledge of the tourism and hospitality industries, particularly in relation to education and employment. Relevant qualifications, in  tourism and education particularly a Certificate IV in training & assessment will be highly regarded.

Your management and leadership experience will be essential to your success in this diverse and challenging role. QTIC is looking for a team player with the ability to lead the workforce development staff to work proactively in order to effectively achieve organisational goals. 

Within this role you will be liaising with a number of internal and external stakeholders, from the QTIC Skills Link council, staff and members to the Department of Education and Training, Tourism Queensland and other relevant Government and industry bodies. Your experience working with a variety of stakeholder groups, managing relationships and engaging staff is essential.

For your hard work and commitment the successful candidate will be rewarded with an attractive remuneration package circa $75,000 - $85,000, dependent upon skills and expertise including superannuation, annual leave loading, salary sacrificing and sick leave loading. This is a full-time contract up to June 2013 with possible extension for the right candidate.
