About the Organisation
Gurriny Yealamucka Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (GYHSAC) is a community controlled health organisation that delivers holistic health care to the people of Yarrabah.
Gurriny Yealamucka Health Service Aboriginal Corporation provides a wide range of current services and the clinic is made up of a number of health professionals including, doctors, generalist health workers, registered nurses, child and maternal health workers, sexual health workers, a health promotion team including a nutrition worker, a social and emotional wellbeing team, life promotion officers, a child links team and links to the "Bringing Them Home" program.
GYHSAC is fully accredited with RACGP and ISO 9001.
GYHSAC provides a free patient transport service for patients requiring access to medical services from the the local community clinic and Cairns specialist clinics.
The organisation is also serviced by an Allied Health team made up of a podiatrist, physiotherapist, a diabetic educator and dietician. Specialists clinics are held regularly by Queensland Health in the areas of Paediatrics, Cardiovascular, Hearing, ENT and Ophthalmology.
With a strong belief in community based care, many of Gurriny Yealamucka Health Service services may be delivered within the community.

About the Opportunity
Gurriny Yealamucka Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (GYHSAC) has an exciting opportunity for a Medical Officer to join their dedicated team in Yarrabah.
In this pivotal role, as part of the dedicated clinical team, you will be responsible for delivering culturally sensitive, comprehensive primary health care to targeted clients in the Yarrabah community.
More specifically, your responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):
- Contributing to the effective functioning of the GYHSAC Clinic Team;
- Maintaining the standards of AGPAL Standards for General Practice and ISO 9001;
- Managing client service delivery to include a balanced mix of short, medium and long term consultations;
- Maintaining accurate, comprehensive, complete and up-to-date client records; and
- Assisting the Clinic Practice Manager with information required to lodge MBS claims
To be considered for this position, you must be an experienced and qualified General Practitioner/ Medical Officer, with current registration or eligibility to obtain registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Medical Practitioner. Post -graduate qualifications will be highly regarded.
GYHSAC is seeking adaptable and flexible individuals who can display the initiative, discretion and cultural sensitivity needed to support and drive the organisation's objectives and values. The ability to communicate and participate effectively within a cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary health team is essential.
Your commitment to improving health care and health outcomes in remote communities, combined with an understanding of the issues currently affecting Aboriginal and remote area health and the principles of Primary Health Care will be the platform to your success in this highly rewarding role.
Candidates who are open to change, comfortable working in a remote environment and who are willing to learn the ways of the community's people will be best suited to this position. No two days will be the same and as a result, highly resourceful candidates will thrive here.
You will be living in Cairns, commuting to Yarrabah on a daily basis, therefore a current driver's licence and the ability to commute up to 2 hours per day is essential.
