Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology services the Brisbane metropolitan area and regional areas extending as far north as Cairns and south to Coffs Harbour.

About the Opportunity

Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology is now seeking a full-time Technical Assistant/Scientist for their Molecular Pathology Department, based in Taringa.

The successful applicant will be expected to work a variety of rostered shifts comprising 6am-2pm, 9am-5pm and 12 midday to 8pm. Weekend work on Saturdays and public holiday work is also an expectation of this position as required, with rostering for these shifts shared amongst the staff group.

The main specific functions of this role will include:

PCR assay setup;
DNA/RNA loading;
Operation of liquid handling robotics;
Use of real-time PCR equipment;
Assay quality control;
Test and result interpretation and reporting;
Providing advice and assistance to referrers, pathologists and other clients in a professional capacity;
Contributing to the department quality management system;
Instrument maintenance and troubleshooting; and
Laboratory assistant duties as required.

The successful candidate must have a minimum of Certificate IV in a relevant area of study from a recognised training institution. Experience in molecular biology or microbiology techniques will be advantageous.

Comprehensive training will be provided, including laboratory assistant specimen reception and DNA/RNA extraction duties, and these duties will occasionally comprise part of the role. Exceptional oral, written communication and organisations skills and a strong team focus is essential.

The organisation's Taringa premises offer easy access to car parking and public transport, and a security guard after hours.

The high level of service provided by Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology is delivered by a dedicated staff comprising of pathologists, scientists, technicians, laboratory assistants, collection personnel, couriers, computer personnel, pathology services assistants and other support staff. The successful candidate will join a small, welcoming team, all of whom have stayed with the organisation for a number of years.
