About the Organisation
Cairns Regional Domestic Violence Service (CRDVS) began its life back in 1987 when it grew from a local, grass roots group to become, in 1992, one of the first four regional domestic violence services to be funded by the Queensland government. CRDVS is a part of the Queensland Domestic Violence Services Network, a Queensland network of Regional and State-wide Domestic Violence Services that works collaboratively and strategically to advance understanding of gender, structural, political, economic, legal and cultural inequalities and inequities which result in gender based violence.
CRDVS's vision is to help the local community live happier and healthier lives by challenging the social structures that maintain domestic and family violence and by providing a comprehensive and client centred quality service to all vulnerable clients. The organisation provides a confidential and free service for family members who have experienced, or are currently experiencing, domestic and family violence.
The service is staffed by a close-knit team of qualified professionals with experience in adult and child counselling, court support, community education and professional training. Their aim is to provide a comprehensive service to address domestic and family violence through community education, court support, coordination, training, referral and direct service delivery.
