Cairns Regional Domestic Violence Service (CRDVS) is a member of the Queensland Domestic Violence Services Network, a Queensland network of Regional and State-wide Domestic Violence Services that works collaboratively and strategically to advance understanding of gender, structural, political, economic, legal and cultural inequalities and inequities which result in gender based violence.
CRDVS's vision is to help the local community live happier and healthier lives by challenging the social structures that maintain domestic and family violence and by providing a comprehensive and client centred quality service to all vulnerable clients. The organisation provides a confidential and free service for family members who have experienced, or are currently experiencing, domestic and family violence.
The service is staffed by a close-knit team of qualified professionals with experience in adult and child counselling, court support and training.
About the Opportunity

Cairns Regional Domestic Violence Service (CRDVS) has a rewarding opportunity for a part-time Court Support Worker (Domestic Violence) to join their team in Cairns working 19 hours a week.
With the aim of reducing incidences of domestic violence in the Far Northern Region, you will provide crisis intervention, including crisis counselling, Domestic Violence Protection Order applications and assistance at court, to ensure victims receive a timely, effective and quality service.
More specifically, your duties will include:
- Providing comprehensive assistance, information and referral, crisis counselling, case management and assistance to victims of domestic and family violence;
- Participating in Domestic Violence Court Team Briefing meetings to provide information and general assistance to other CRDVS staff in relation to CRDVS assisted protection order applications;
- Preparing and maintaining appropriate, accurate and confidential records of client work, including case management plans and court data;
- Providing information, referral and general assistance to the aggrieved in relation to protection orders and assist other CRDVS staff, judicial officers, court staff and police officers with domestic violence court duties; and
- Working collaboratively with staff from other organisations to maintain and develop support groups for women who have experienced domestic and family violence;
- Assisting in enhancing community awareness of domestic violence and family violence and its effects.
The ideal candidate will have appropriate tertiary qualifications in the social or behavioural sciences (Psychology, Social Work or Community Welfare) or a related discipline and will have experience in providing crisis counselling, case management, group work, advocacy and crisis intervention.
You will have in-depth knowledge, analysis and understanding of domestic violence and its effects on women, children and adolescents, as well as other issues affecting child welfare such as child abuse. To be successful in this position you will also need to be able to demonstrate sound knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of legislation impacting on situations of domestic and family violence.
CRDVS requires a resilient applicant with good coping mechanisms, initiative and creative energy. You must have outstanding interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, clients, families, government and non-government agencies and the general public. Also required are computer literacy skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
All applicants must hold (or obtain) a current driver's licence, a Working With Children Card and a formal police criminal history check.
