Established in 1998, The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) is a dynamic and ever-evolving First Nations’ health care partnership consisting of four health organizations providing health services responsive to the needs of the northern communities.
Collectively, the four organizations (Meadow Lake Tribal Council, Lac La Ronge Indian Band, Prince Albert Grand Council and Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation) have gained over 20 years of expertise delivering nursing, public health, and primary care treatment services to 33 First Nation communities across northern Saskatchewan.

About the Opportunity
As a growing health authority, NITHA has an opening for a dynamic leader in the position of Infection Control Advisor to join its team in Prince Albert, SK.
Reporting to the Medical Health Officer, your primary focus will be to provide comprehensive support related to infection control with particular focus on community health programs in collaboration with the Public Health Unit. This role will appeal to a highly motivated individual who can provide leadership, innovation, and vision in related health areas including but not limited to administration, clinical practice, education, and research, in order to support effective infection control in the Partners’ organizations.
Specifically, you will:
- Maintain communication with Federal/Provincial/Regional organizations relating to infection control and related programs;
- Provides briefing notes, needs assessment reports, community health strategies, and any other reports relevant to this area of practice, as required;
- Assist in the implementation of infection prevention and control best practices at the health facilities of the NITHA partnership;
- Support Managers in the implementation of regular supervision of health workers on infection control;
- Establish mechanisms to ensure quality assurance in infection prevention and equipment sterilization;
- Ensure proper documentation of the sterilization process and outcome including policies, procedures and protocol; and
- Identify training needs, and coordinate/deliver the necessary education in infection control to applicable staff in the Partners’ organizations.
In addition to a diploma or undergraduate degree (a Master’s would be highly desirable) in a health related field, you have a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, particularly in the area of infection control. Although equivalencies will be considered, you ideally have outstanding leadership qualities and/or experience with working in a First Nations health organization.
The ability to apply a thorough knowledge of infection control practices to support the design, development and on-going improvement of related programs and services will be essential to your success, as is the capacity to identify, plan, develop and implement infection control practices and service delivery through others. You thrive on providing advisory services/guidance in matters requiring interpretation of infection control practices and standards.
Above all, you are an excellent communicator (both verbally and in writing) who is able to manage projects and work with others to meet tight deadlines.
