About the Parenting Research Centre
The Parenting Research Centre is Australia's only independent not-for-profit parenting research and development centre dedicated to helping all parents raise happy, healthy children.
The Centre believes that parenting is the critical factor in a child's development and quality of life and that the science of parenting can make a difference in the everyday lives of families and communities. Since 1997, the Parenting Research Centre has conducted research and developed evidence based parenting support programs.
Many of the programs the Centre has designed are now delivered across Australia.
About the Opportunity
The Parenting Research Centre has an exciting opportunity for a qualified and experienced Research Officer to join their dedicated team in East Melbourne either on a part-time or full-time basis.
In this hands-on position, you will be responsible for supporting research activities in relation to the development, implementation and evaluation of programs for parents. Depending on the nature of the projects allocated, this will include project management, data collection, coding and entry, and contribution to funding and ethics applications and publications.
Reporting to the Senior Research Officer/Program Manager, your key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the identification, synthesis and translation of scientific research and evidence base practice;
- Facilitating group, individual, telephone and online parenting support interventions, programs and workshops;
- Implementing participant management procedures in intervention trials;
- Project planning and organisation;
- Supporting the development of papers for publication in scientific literature and preparing material for the Centre publications (PRC, eNews & website); and
- Assisting with the preparation of tenders, grant submissions and ethics applications.
The ideal candidate will hold an Honours, Masters or 4 year degree in psychology or a related discipline (social work, teaching, nursing or other), have a genuine interest in parenting and families and advanced skills and experience using literature search databases and Endnote.
You will have skills in social science research methods with demonstrated capacity to conduct high quality and innovative research in ‘real world’ settings. A strong commitment to the scientist-practitioner model, and the development and dissemination of evidence based practice is also essential.
A high level of written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare high quality documents and reports, along with strong IT skills, including a sound knowledge of Microsoft Suite programs (Excel, World and Access), Internet and email will be paramount to your success in this position. Above all, you will be a highly motivated and proactive individual who has plenty of initiative and is able to work effectively independently.

This is a 12 month fixed term contract.
