About the Organisation

The Inner East Melbourne Medicare Local (IEMML) mission is to optimise the health of the local community and achieve measurable health outcomes. Through a network of primary health care providers it promotes and delivers optimal continuing health care to a population of over 600,000 residents in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

Servicing the municipalities of Boroondara, Manningham, Monash and Whitehorse, IEMML is responsible for driving improvements in general practice and primary health care to ensure that services are better tailored to meet the needs of local communities. As part of its vision, IEMML has developed a strategic plan to deliver enhanced primary health care across a number of areas including after hours care, aged care services, mental health and eHealth.

About the eHealth Project

The IEMML has been selected as one of three eHealth Lead Implementation Sites in Australia by the federal government to develop the foundations of the Personally Controlled Electronic Health Record (PCEHR) system. The project will provide a solution for healthcare providers that enables them to upload summary health information to a local data repository that is accessible by other authorised healthcare providers.

About the Opportunity

The Inner East Melbourne Medicare Local has exciting opportunities for three IT-savvy eHealth Support Officers to join their friendly team based in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, on a contract basis.

These roles will work 37.5 hours per week for a fixed term six month contract, until 30 December 2012.

You'll play a pivotal role in rolling out this innovative new system across healthcare providers in Melbourne's east. Your particular focus will be on supporting a range of organisations to prepare their business to become eHealth ready.

More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to the identification of strategies to engage organisations in the National PCEHR System;
  • Assisting organisations with the installation of hardware and software directly related to patient recruitment and access to the National PCEHR System;
  • Running proprietary software for the purposes of bulk data matching and mail merge on site at GP practices;
  • Assisting with the development of stakeholder training materials, and providing training sessions to organisation staff; and
  • Participating in software testing activities.

The IEMML is looking for energetic team players who have qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in a relevant health field, and a specific interest in the primary care sector. Given the IT-based nature of this project, you'll need to have solid IT skills, including competence using MS Office and Windows Explorer (including the search functions), basic understanding of how a network works, and the ability to set up a computer and attach additional hardware.

It would be advantageous to have experience working with GPs and healthcare professionals, including a broad understanding of the IT requirements in a GP environment. The successful applicants will have excellent professional communication skills, with the ability to interact with and write for a range of audiences, both within and external to the IEMML. You'll be a highly organised and self-motivated worker, with the ability to analyse and solve problems reliably, as they arise.

All applicants need a current driver's licence and reliable vehicle, with mileage reimbursement for work-related use.

The IEMML is proud of its open and accessible leadership, its great team of people to work with, and the unanimous dedication of its staff.

Working within a family friendly work environment, you'll maintain a healthy work/life balance, and have easy access to ample onsite parking.

You will be rewarded for your hard work and commitment with an attractive remuneration package plus super, along with generous salary packaging options.
