About the Opportunity

A unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced General Manager to join Tourism Fraser Coast.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, you'll be responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of the company to ensure its objectives are achieved in a professional and timely manner.

Some of your more specific duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Ensuring sound financial management of the Organisation;
  • Reporting to the Board monthly regarding operational performance including financial, membership and marketing;
  • Maintaining a close working relationship with the tourism industry, the media, local business and relevant Local, State and Commonwealth Government organisations;
  • Developing and implementing an annual marketing plan, and in association with the Board, an annual Corporate/Business Plan for the Organisation;
  • Marketing and developing tourism product and services to maximise the economic benefits to the region;
  • Initiating, implementing and managing sales driven marketing campaigns;
  • Maintaining and encouraging a close liaison with Tourism Queensland in regards to marketing and product development issues;
  • Planning and coordinating tourism industry functions and seminars with industry organisations;
  • Recruiting, developing and managing staff to ensure optimum performance; and
  • Achieving favourable, and accurate, media coverage for the region and encouraging familiarisation tours by travel and media personnel of the region.

The successful applicant will have substantial hands-on experience in a Management position within both a membership based organisation and the tourism industry. A tertiary qualification in Tourism, Marketing or Business, or equivalent experience, is essential.

In this role, your ability to provide leadership and strategic advice in managing a membership based, regional tourism organisation is pivotal, as is your high level management skills, particularly your ability to manage financial, human and physical resources.

Importantly, you will be a clear and personable communicator, with sound presentation, written and reporting skills and the ability to build effective relationships with a range of people, including staff, members, the Board and stakeholders.

To succeed, you'll need a working knowledge and understanding of the Queensland tourism industry and its structure, and proven marketing skills, including an understanding of destination marketing. A current driver's licence is also a must.
