The Queensland Varley Site is based in Virginia employing approximately 100 people. At Virginia they build Specialised, Mining, Health and Emergency Vehicles providing a complex manufacturing environment.

About the Opportunity

Varley has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Project Site Supervisor (Shut Downs) to join their team in Brisbane.

Although based out of Virginia, you will be travelling to locations all over Australia as you lead a team of experienced Tradespersons predominately working on shut downs in Power Stations and Manufacturing facilities refurbishing steam valves, pumps and other heavy equipment. This will also include representing Varley to existing and potential customers with a view to further business growth.

More specifically some of your key duties will include:

  • Maintaining high personal safety standards while leading the team to ensure zero incidents;
  • Direct Supervision of an onsite team of Trades and Support personnel to complete the shutdowns on time and safely;
  • Ensuring that team members are trained and assisting in recruitment for shut downs;
  • Managing project equipment to ensure it is ready and fit for purpose at all times;
  • Liaising with customers on a regular basis to maintain a healthy business relationship; and
  • Managing labour and correct allocation of hours and materials.

The successful candidate will require relevant fitter trade qualifications and significant supervisory experience as well as a mechanical background with the ability to maintain high standards of work and behaviour at all times. With a crew of up to 20-30 people, you'll need to be highly organised with great time management and team work skills. 

You'll be a motivated individual with a high level of initiative enabling you to weigh up a situation and take the timely and appropriate action as required. As a skilled communicator, you'll also need the ability to read and understand Technical drawings and specifications.

In addition, you'll also need to be prepared to travel to remote sites for varied periods of time as 25% to 50% of your time will be spent away from the workshop in the field.
