About the Organisation
The Domestic Violence Prevention Centre Gold Coast Inc (DVPCGC Inc) is a community-based organisation that has been operating for 20 years and focuses on the safety and wellbeing of women and their children who have experienced domestic violence.
These positions will work alongside existing staff at the Domestic Violence Prevention Centre Gold Coast Inc to provide an integrated early intervention response for vulnerable and at risk families in order to divert them away from the statutory child protection system as part of the Department of Communities funded Helping Out Families program.
The program provides co-ordination and support of local services, individual counselling and group work for women and their children affected by domestic and family violence as well as information, training and resources to other Family Support Services.
About the Opportunity
The Domestic Violence Prevention Centre Gold Coast Inc (DVPCGC Inc) is seeking 2 full time Domestic Violence Prevention Workers to join their Gold Coast team. These positions are for an 18 month period commencing early July 2012 until December 2013.
Reporting to the Helping Out Families Team Leader, the main aim of this role is to provide a counselling response to women who are experiencing or have experienced domestic violence. This includes the provision of crisis and therapeutic counselling and group work programs.
Some of your more specific responsibilities will include:
- Counselling and group work with women and their children;
- Court support, information and advocacy services;
- Commitment to feminist philosophy, practice and team work;
- Building relationships with key internal stakeholders and external bodies; and
- Commitment to a reform agenda to end violence.
The successful candidate will have relevant tertiary qualifications in the human services field and the demonstrated ability to apply your theoretical learning into practice in a community based organisation.
Well developed knowledge of domestic violence and its impact on women and children is essential, particularly within the areas of family law, immigration and child protection legislation, and the case work/case management process.
Your demonstrated counselling and group work skills will be supported by a clearly articulated risk management framework appropriate for responding to domestic violence.
In addition, you will demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal and computer skills with a proven ability to work effectively in a diverse team with a client group with complex needs.
To be successful in this position, you will be able to work within a community based organisation, to participate in a staff team in a collaborative and supportive manner, and to work both independently and as part of a team.
A current driver's licence and a current 'Positive Notice Blue Card' for child related employment are also requirements of this position.
