About Cootamundra
Cootamundra, a picturesque town of around 6,000 residents, possesses an appealing mix of country charm and city style. A thriving centre for sport, history and the arts, the town is also surrounded by classic agricultural land and villiages rich in heritage.
The area is regarded as one of the most prosperous agricultural areas in NSW, and is popular with nature lovers who travel to the region to see the extravagant blooming of the countless Cootamundra wattle trees in July and August, as well as the spectacular birdlife in its natural habitat at Pioneer Park.
The area provides excellent schooling, health and recreational facilities, and is rich in sporting history as the birthplace of Australia's greatest batsman, Sir Donald Bradman. The town boasts a museum dedicated to the sporting hero, as well as 42 bronze sculptures of Australian Test Cricket Captains along the unique Captains Walk in Jubilee Park.
Located half way between Sydney and Melbourne, with Canberra a pleasant two hour drive away, it is an ideal base for exploring the entire Riverina region of NSW. Excellent road and rail services are available to the capital cities and daily air services to Sydney are available from Wagga Wagga (100km).
About the Opportunity
Cootamundra Shire Council has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Corporate Services to lead their Corporate Services Department of Council in Cootamundra.
As part of the Managing Executive (MANEX), you'll provide timely, accurate and relevant advice to the General Manager, in addition to directing and managing the delivery and outcomes of work activities within the Corporate Services Department of Council.
More specifically, your duties will include (but will not be limited to):
- Providing effective and efficient direction and management of the functions and staff of Finance, Customer Services, Development Services, Information Services, Records, Library Services, Human Resources, Emergency Services, Tourism, Community Relations, as well as Arts and Cultural Services;
- Identifying and implementing strategies, systems, protocols and policies to continually develop Council operations;
- Leading the development, implementation and monitoring of Integrated Planning and Reporting processes including the Community Strategic Plan, Delivery Program, Operational Plan and associated resourcing strategies;
- Ensuring Council's Asset Management activities are coordinated and effective; and
- Collaborating as part of the Managing Executive group.
To be successful in this role, you will have tertiary qualifications in a discipline related to the Corporate Services Department activities, or demonstrated equivalent experience (preferably within local Government). You'll also have a detailed knowledge of Local Government administration and a comprehensive understanding of the legislation underpinning it. Additionally, you will also be a demonstrated leader with management experience, a strong ability to lead decisively, manage and develop staff to their full potential, while promoting a cohesive and effective work environment.
You'll be someone who considers the future, as well the social and physical environment when making decisions, and will facilitate change for the benefit of the community. A strategic thinker, you will contribute to long term planning and implementation of projects, while utilising your keen analytical skills to interpret a range of information and documentation including legislation, finance, customer relations and strategic planning. You'll also have the ability to present clear and concise reports relaying complex and technical information.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential to your success, as you will be liaising and negotiating with stakeholders such as external parties and agencies, members of the public, Councillors and staff at all levels. You will also possess demonstrated organisational and time management skills. Computer literacy is a must and the successful applicant must hold a current C class drivers licence.
