About the Organisation

Drillsearch Energy is a rapidly growing Australian oil and gas explorer and producer, listed on the ASX200. Currently focused primarily on the highly-prospective Cooper-Eromanga Basin in south-western QLD & north-eastern South Australia, the company's corporate head office is based in Sydney.

As a smaller but consistent player in the Australian resources sector, Drillsearch has built a stellar industry reputation over the past 25 years. The business is currently in an exciting aggressive period of growth, doubling its size this year alone.

About the Opportunity

Due to aggressive growth in 2012, Drillsearch Energy has a newly created opportunity for an experienced Petrophysicist to join their expanding team in Sydney's CBD.

Drillsearch has recently announced the formation of a strategic joint venture with QGC, to explore and develop unconventional shale and tight gas resources in the Cooper-Eromanga Basin. This role offers an experienced Petrophysicist the opportunity to join a multi-disciplinary team, working to deliver robust petrophysical studies, and define exploration and future field development opportunities.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to the maintenance and updating of the static and dynamic reservoir descriptions and models, ensuring that reservoir characteristics are properly understood and communicated;
  • Providing technical petrophysics expertise to support reserves / resources bookings;
  • Carrying out integrated petrophysical studies in operated and non operated blocks;
  • Identifying and assessing new opportunities as they arise; and
  • Coaching and mentoring less experienced staff.

This is a senior role requiring an applicant with experience in similar roles within both the conventional and unconventional oil & gas sectors, and skills in petrophysical areas including uncertainty management, support to 3D modelling, and field development plans. You'll hold tertiary qualifications in Geoscience or Petroleum Engineering, and will have a proven track record in lifecycle well and reservoir management, as well as Integrated Petrophysical Studies.

The successful applicant will be highly skilled in project management, advising on field development plans and liaising with well delivery teams on a range of specific requirements. It's vital you have demonstrated confidence in the tool-choice and interpretation of a wide range of open and closed well logs.

You'll be self-motivated to achieve results, innovative with your 'outside of the box' problem solving, and the type of open communicator who encourages teamwork and collaboration within a team. Excellent computer skills are essential, and you must have the flexibility to travel or work outside of hours on the occasions it's required.

Now is the time to join Drillsearch in this senior technical role - as a small company entering an exciting large project, you'll enjoy a strong voice and impact on the company's future direction.

The company strongly encourages staff to keep their skills and industry knowledge up to date, so you'll be provided with training opportunities and study assistance to ensure your professional development continues.

You'll be joining a professional, supportive and sociable team, enjoying the benefits that a growing ASX200 listed company can bring its staff! With monthly Boardroom drinks, social events to celebrate team successes, and participation in charity and sporting events such as the City To Surf, it's a welcoming team culture awaiting you. Additionally, you'll enjoy discounted gym membership and fresh fruit in the office, to make sure you stay happy and healthy on the job!

Based in Sydney's corporate HQ, you'll get to reap the benefits of the resources boom, while loving life in one of the world's greatest and most colourful cities! Drillsearch wants the right person for this role - so if the best applicant is currently living elsewhere, the business will offer a generous relocation package.

Your hard work and expertise will be rewarded with a highly competitive salary package circa $300,000+, negotiated based on your experience and qualifications.
