About the Organisation
In May 2005, Native Title was granted to the Ngarluma and Yindjibarndi people and Ngarluma Aboriginal Corporation (NAC) was set up shortly after in June 2005. The NAC is the governing body for Native Title over land the Ngarluma people are the traditional owners of.
Among their many responsibilities in managing Native Title, the NAC has the responsibility of using Native Title land to make social and economic opportunities for the Ngarluma people. They aim to achieve this by creating employment and training opportunities, restoring and looking after language and culture, and restoring a sense of pride and purpose for the Ngarluma people.
Ngarluma PBC has partnerships with a range of corporate and government groups, including Rio Tinto, the Department of Agriculture, Department of Indigenous Affairs, Woodside Petroleum, the Indigenous Land Corporation and the Department of Industry and Resources.
About Roebourne & the Pilbara Region
Roebourne is a former gold rush town in Western Australia's Pilbara region. The Pilbara region is known for its dynamic Aboriginal population, its stunning landscapes and the vast red earth rich in mineral deposits. Most of the Pilbara's population resides in Port Hedland, Karratha and Newman and Roebourne is situated about 40 km from Karratha, 202 km from Port Hedland and just over 1,500 km from Perth.
Currently, Roebourne serves as the gateway to many national parks including Millstream Chichester National Park and the Mungaroona Range Nature Reserve. Services in Roebourne include public schools, a TAFE campus and a local hospital.
About the Opportunity
Ngarluma Aboriginal Corporation has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Bookkeeper to join their professional team in Roebourne, WA.
Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will primarily be responsible for processing the creditor and debtor invoices for NAC on a timely basis.
This will involve reconciling supplier monthly accounts and uploading online EFT payments, as well as receipting debtor payments and reconciling bank accounts.
More specifically, your duties will include (but not be limited to):
- Data entry of Supplier invoices into MYOB;
- Reconciliation of Supplier Monthly Accounts;
- Preparation of EFT payment upload in online banking for authorising;
- Preparation of Supplier Account Applications;
- Data entry of Sales invoices into MYOB;
- Allocation of Debtor payments in MYOB;
- Bank Reconciliations; and
- Data entry of Payroll.
To be successful in this role, you will need demonstrated experience in accounts payable/receivable, as well as strong attention to detail and IT skills and accounting software experience. Expertise in data entry, Excel and MYOB operating system is essential.
The position will best suit a patient individual who has strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, as well as strong reconciliation and team building skills. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a proven ability to develop effective working relationships with team members, other employees, stakeholders and clients.
This is a hands on role which may require efficient inputting of payroll and other data entry tasks. The ability to multitask, schedule and efficiently organise workloads under pressure, along with other demonstrated organisational skills such as flexibility, will be essential to your success.
Importantly, you'll have a strong commitment to working with Aboriginal people to achieve their land aspirations and objectives and must be able to demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal people.
The successful applicant will be required to obtain a Federal Police clearance before commencing employment.
