Nunkuwarrin Yunti is the foremost Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation in Adelaide, South Australia, providing health care and community support services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

First incorporated in 1971, Nunkuwarrin Yunti has grown from a welfare agency with three employees to a multi-faceted organisation with over 70 staff who deliver a diverse range of health care and community support services.

  • Service Development and Strategic Support team;

About the Opportunity

Nunkuwarrin Yunti has an exciting opportunity for a Vocational Trainer & Assessor (Cert IV) to join their Adelaide team.

The primary aim of this role is to provide frontline supervision, training and assessment for the Certificate IV in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Community Care) and other nationally recognised VET sector qualifications, while developing Vocational Education Training sector resources and workshop materials.  

More specifically, this role will be responsible for:

  • Preparing resources for training & assessment as required, and delivering nationally recognised qualifications and accredited workshops;
  • Assisting in the recruitment of potential students applying for accredited training programs, and supervising student selection processes;
  • Negotiating, engaging and supervising appropriate external training contractors;
  • Supporting, monitoring and reviewing students' learning experience to ensure cultural appropriateness; and
  • Implementing quality assurance processes to ensure the organisation provides quality Training & Assessment, and adheres to principles of access and equity.

Nunkuwarrin Yunti is seeking a candidate with tertiary qualifications in Aboriginal Primary Health Care, Narrative Therapy, Community Services, Social Work/Science, Psychology, Counselling or a related field. You'll hold a Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training, or equivalent, and will have a proven background in delivering and assessing nationally accredited training, short courses and workshops to adult learners within the Vocational Education Sector. You'll be aware of Community Services and Health training packages and; although not essential, it would be desirable if you had demonstrated experience in monitoring and reporting AQTF 2007 issues.

The successful applicant will have experience working with Aboriginal people, organisations and communities, with an understanding of Aboriginal Primary health Care principles, cultural values and ways of doing business. Qualifications in Aboriginal Mental Health First Aid Train the Trainer or similar will be highly regarded.

The successful candidate will be a team player with excellent organisational, time management and communication skills, including sound community consultation, negotiation and meeting and workshop facilitation skills. You'll have the proven ability to work with minimal supervision, to identify performance outcomes, plan activities and set priorities to achieve training objectives and meet deadlines. Computer literacy is essential, particularly relating to writing and developing course material, reports, briefs and other correspondence.

This is a flexible role in which you may be occasionally required to complete out of hours work, and some travel throughout the state. Applicants must hold a current driver's licence.
