About the Opportunity

Northern Territory General Practice Education has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Medical Educator (General Practice) to join its diverse, multidisciplinary team based in Darwin, NT. This is a fixed term, 2 year contract working 0.8 FTE (negotiable) which will allow you to maintain your clinical skills while also educating the next generation of Australian General Practitioners.

Approximately 50% of your time will be spend undertaking the tasks of NTGPE's general medical education staff including providing direct training and support to GP Registrars, medical students, junior doctors, International Medical Graduates and external groups.  Importantly, in this newly created opportunity, you'll also be responsible for strategically growing the quality of education content throughout all NTGPE programs

More specifically, your educational duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Performing external clinical teaching visits for GP Registrars;
  • Conducting workshop and orientation presentations for all programs;
  • Presenting clinical video and teleconferences; and
  • Functioning as Training Advisor to GP Registrars.

Your strategic planning responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating and reviewing the educational content of NTGPE's Workshops, Orientations and Small Group Learning activities;
  • Working closely with the Director of Medical and Cultural Education to develop and implement a professional development program for NTGPE's Cultural and Medical Education staff;
  • Promoting and representing the NTGPE throughout the Northern Territory and interstate; and
  • Playing a leadership role in the educational component of new programs, projects and proposals including the development and writing of project plans and submissions.

NTGPE are looking for a dynamic and innovative Medical Educator who enjoys a challenge and truly wants to make a difference to the overall health in remote and Aboriginal communities of the Northern Territory.

To succeed in this position, you must be eligible for registration as a primary care doctor in the Northern Territory and hold a Diploma or Master's degree in Health Education, Clinical Supervision/Education (or have equivalent experience and a willingness to work towards these qualifications).

You'll have the ability to effectively plan implement and review educational programs and will create innovative solutions to education delivery.  Using your excellent time management and organisational skills, you'll be able to manage high levels of competing demand and meet deadlines.  As a leader, you'll also be willing to take on different roles within your team.

Importantly, you'll maintain an active involvement in clinical work and will have high levels of cross-cultural awareness, particularly with regards to Aboriginal cultural aspects of training.

Lastly, you'll require exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary groups.

While not essential, research experience or experience working in the Northern Territory or a similar rural or remote setting will be highly regarded.
